applying decals to a contorted surface.

Hi I am struggling to get this to work and if anyone can point me in the correct direction that would be great.

https://github.com/Amilod/Autodesk-Inventor/tree/BMW-Hub-Cap

I am trying to get the decal fixed to the surface of the revolution but no matter what I try to do I just cannot get it to work.

If anyone can take a look for me and suggest what I’m doing wrong that would be great.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

John.

Hi John,

Here are two examples (ZIP, Inventor 2016 file format attached)  – one with a more exaggerated ‘contortion’ (spline based), and another with a simple smooth (arc based) surface.

In both cases, I’ve applied some constraints to the geometry used in the sketch, to make the revolved surface contiguous.

Hi John,

You could flip the sketch based on workplane and then you can do the decal on the face. (Select Work Plane7 in the model browser and right click on it. Choose Flip Normal from the context menu.)

Thanks,

Steven
