Appearance Tiling

Hello

I am trying to create a wood grain appearance that i can apply to table tops, etc. I have a high res image of a sample approx 3400 x 1300mm.

When i try to create an appearance and apply it to a much smaller top (1200 x 600) i would expect to be using only a small piece of my appearance image. However Inventor still tiles it for me, in both directions. with the tile joins being right in the centre of my top. I have tried adjusting the tiling options in the texture editor but it doesn't work.

I have a quality image, i should be able to get a quality appearance with no tiling.

What is the solution?

If you select the appearance surface, and pick this command.

ADJUST.png

You can select shown below to adjust the scale of the appearance.

Hello

Yes you are right I can scale it, however it still tiles it in the centre, and i can't drag the image around with that tool. scalescale

It may be necessary to create a 'quad-X' texture. What do I mean? The attached images are designed to be applied to a 2x2x2 cube. Quad-X refers to having to cut the image into four equal sections, the X refers to how the layout differs from the original.

  • MyTexture.png is the original - it doesn't work and the seam is in the center of the face.
  • MyTexture_X.png goes on the front and back faces. Cut the texture image into 4 pieces and move them around (hence the numbers to demonstrate where to move the texture sections.
  • MyTexture_Y.png goes on Top, Bottom, Right, and Left faces. Another slicing required for sides/top/bottom.
  • If you have Photoshop, I can give you those files so you can turn layers on/off to see what i did.

I have a video showing the process but need to edit it (13.5 minutes at present) down. Perhaps a guided tutorial is needed? Thoughts?

Sorry but I do not understand you anyway, you send some pictures but I have no idea how could I cut them a put in one picture that it works.

Could you explain me more? I have one picture I enclose it. I would like to have on easy texture based on size of model. Not this grid.

Hello David,

It may be easier to simply use this site where you upload a texture image and the site will create a "seamless texture" from your image. It cuts out the work of cutting up an image (which often ends us looking cut up).

Look online for tutorials or software that can assist in making seamless textures.
