Always creating an automatic shorthcut when creating a new project file

Hello everyone,

When I create a new project using the project wizard, the software not only creates the .ipj file on the assigned folder for projects but adds also a shortcut file (please check the image below).

Could you please help me to figure out what am I doing wrong? I'm working with inventor 2021

Thank you in advance for your time.

Regards,

Luis

Where are you creating your projects? Inventor will create a shortcut to the project in the "Projects folder" referenced in Application Options. If you are creating your new project in this location that would explain this behavior.

Hi,

Thank you for your quick reply.

I'm indeed creating new projects on the application options referenced folder.

On our company we only create projects on that folder, so that everyone has access to the "standard" projects for each equipment.

Is there a workaround this topic? I would like to have the original one (only the original one) on the referenced folder (with the actual workspace path set for other folder).

Sorry for the trouble and thank you for your time.

Luis.

If you create the new project where you would like the workspace you will still have a shortcut to that project file in the projects folder. This would still give everyone the same view as if only the project was created with no shortcut. To my knowledge there is no work around to not create the shortcut due to the fact that (I think) this is "behind the scenes" on how Inventor works and finds projects. Is this a new issue or an old issue for you? I'm guessing your projects folder is pointed to a network location? If it is you could point it back to the original local location but still save the project in your network location. That would give you only the original file in the network location. Hope this helps!

Yes, we are using a network location.

We never had this type of problem so I was wondering if it was something concerning the new inventor version (2021) or if it was a problem on our company's configuration.

You made a very good point. I will probably keep the default path for the projects' folder (local) and save the original file on the network location.

Thank you very much!!!!!

Hi @luis.faria598HQ

This behavior has been in Inventor dating back many releases. While there is no option in Inventor to not create the shortcut, you can workaround this by

1. deleting the shortcut from your directory location

2. Edit the project and go to project options and edit the shortcut name and remove it.

(See attached image)

Thanks

Hi,

Thank you very much for your reply.

We've been using Inventor 2016 until our recent update to 2021 version.

I've tried what you have suggested, but it still creates a shortcut when I close and the re-open the project wizard. Apparently the shortcut name is filled when I open the project wizard (even after removing it).

Regards,

Luís.

Hi @luis.faria598HQ

My apologies. I take it back. I see that it's re-creating the project now even after deletion. I must not have launched the projects dialog the second time after deleting it. Everytime you launch the projects folder, it puts the shortcut back.

Apologies again.

Hello,

No problem xD

Thank you very much for your help and time.

I will probably redirect the projects' folder to a local folder and save it on the network location, as previously suggested.

Thank you very much once again.

Regards,
