every time i try tro use apparent intersection i have a problem.sometimes works with 2 lines but bigger problem with a arc and a line.seems sdrawing a sketch is easier. i use solidworks and you stab the 2 lines and a dot and there it is nio problem. is there a easier way?

For Arc and Line combination, I right-click the View, Edit Sketch and create one by projecting the arc and line in question, and then draw my geomtry at the sketch level (put a line there so you have the apparent intersection you are looking for). Then, once you exit, you can take your dimension from/to that point. Yes, it stinks.

Inventor Ideas: Drawings - Dimension to Apparent Intersections With Arcs

Posted this a "few" years ago, still waiting.  Vote for it, tell all your friends, enemies, colleagues, loved ones, etc. to vote for it, too.  Someday...

i dont understand why autodesk is so slow on things i put in a request and it took 10 years to get it.

i am also solidworks literate

they have something called virtual sharp

choose the virtual sharp u want

pick 2 lines you want the sharp in your sketch and hit point

easy as pie

i will send to ideas as well which i think i already did

Hi! The support for virtual sharps is always there, though it is not easy to discover. For the situation shown in above image, the workflow is like this. Dimension -> pick one line segment -> right-click -> Intersection -> pick the other line segment -> the virtual sharp will appear -> select the end point of the line to place the dimension.

We did have regressions causing this workflow to fail (2022?). But it should have been fixed in the latest update. Please try it out.

Many thanks!

@rclement The idea I posted and the original post in this topic are specifically addressing the situation where one or both of the intersecting elements are arcs.  Inventor handles virtual intersections of lines just fine (though without the variety of options shown in your SW images).
