Accidentally Saved Same file name to Vault

Hi, I am a single user on Inventor 2019 at my company. i use the Vault Basic for better file management.

In the past I ran into the issue of creating two files with the same name which vault will NOT allow even if they are in different folders like Windows Explorer would allow. I have been very careful not to do this is recent years but i accidentally just did it again.

For the life of my I can not figure out how to rename the file without completely deleting it and starting over which would be a nightmare at this point. Can someone please give me step by step instructions to changing the file name so I can check in my assembly to the vault?

Thanks

Sandro

Here's a few things that you can do..

1.  Open the model in Design Assistant and rename https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-products/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2019/ENU/Inventor-Help/files/GUID-B2B198B3-B131-4CD6-B3C6-C8663BCDD60A-htm.html

2.  Close your Inventor model and rename the file in Win Exp and then reopen the model and resolve the file to the new file name.

3.  Under Assembly Productivity tools (ribbon), select save and replace and select the component you want to save.

4.  In Vault, disable the unique file names, check in the model,  and then use Vault rename function.  Then when done, enable unique file names.

We have used spreadsheets and/or custom database applications to track the issued filenames/part numbers.  That way we never have filename collisions.

Wow I don't know why I am always surprised when the answer to my assumed simple question is incredibly convoluted. Another instance where Inventor should have a streamlined function for doing this.

Regardless, I appreciate your response and will give it a try. I don't like the idea of closing the model like you have instructed since it hasnt let me save it yet so im thinking these parts will disappear.

I will give it a try and let you know.
