About updating Add-ins

Dear all, bonjour.

I would like to gather your experience to take the correct decision regarding the way I will manage my add-ins deployement. Indeed, I developped over the years quite a few add-ins for the company I'm working with. Right now, those are deployed via drag/drop. I basically send an e-mail with the update explanation, and pray that the collaborator read & install the new updated version.

However, with the collaborator population increasing, and beeing split between Europe & India, and on top of that the add-ins updates releasing at a faster rate (because of the increasing number of functionalities), I find that the drag/drop & pray method is no longer suited.

I then have to take a decision to choose a proper way of handling things. How are you managing your add-ins deployement ?

Kind regards,

FINET L.

The add-in battle is something i have struggled with as well. i have gone as far as creating a shortcut to the folder where i want the user to add them, then when i push an update, they close the software and drag the attachment from the email (we use and admin folder in the vault) to the correct folder for the specific application.

i wish there was a way to signify the file path for add-ins or be able to add another address to the default path, so that you could use the vault to place them in the correct folder.

we use a setup like that for our symbol libraries and styles. along with our ilogic rules.

You can look into a install package, Windows program installer.

I'll think VS has something to do that.

@CGBenner  I'm still digging the subject. Unfortunatly no proposition here will be the solution of my choice. I have some idea of what I want & how I want it and honnestly it sounds kind of sexy. I just need to implement it (throw my idea against reality to see if it passes the test).  🙂

Kind regards,

FINET L.
