3d Weld Annotations without weldment assemblies

Is there a way to make weld annotations in assemblies and parts without using weldment iams?  We don't normally use them because we don't normally need actual weld material in the models.

I'd like our engineers to make weld annotations while designing, but not have to actually make the 3d shapes.  That way, when we hand off the designs to the drafters, they can show the notes on the drawings.  I'm hoping for a way to leverage the 3D annotation tools.

We have some drawing release automation that does not like weldment iams.  I'd like to avoid paying an update fee to fix those issues.

I don't think that is going to be possible.  The weld annotations aren't part of the newer 3D Annotation tools.  They predate them, and are only accessible in a weldment assembly.

Incidentally, I have almost the opposite situation from you.  I actually do prefer to use the weldment tools to create 3D weld geometry - I find it useful for checking clearances, as well as helping explain some more complex situations.  Lots of mistakes that would have caused problems in the shop have been prevented because the weld geometry was actually visible to the equipment designer.  Also, some of our fabricated items are large enough that the weight of weld material can become significant. We still don't model the welds on everything, and it's not a requirement in our design or CAD standards.  But it's my personal preference to do it, and I encourage it for other users as well.

However, I don't use the model weld annotations, because they don't really support fractional weld callouts.  Since I can't make them conform to our company dimensioning standards, they are useless for me.  Unfortunately, this means that my weld callouts on the drawing are not actually tied to the model, and have to be manually entered.

Hi Steve,

Unfortunately, there is not a way to create weld annotation in a regular assembly.

Many thanks!
