3D PDF query

Hi All,

I am using 3D pdf to share with my manager. I have couple of issues. I am using assembly template.

1. it always prompts with yellow ribbon to trust site only once instead of opening right away. Is there a revision / version of Acrobat which opens directly ?  when you select open this site always, nothing happens not sure why? Its like i have to guide them how to view the model before talking about it.

2. Positional reps: I have different positional reps at increment of 15 deg to 90 deg. When i do pdf i have to create 6 different pdf with each positional rep which is frustrating for creating one and receiver as well to open 6 different pdf and go through above procedure.

Can this be fixed ? I thought 3D pdf was suppose to be great sales tool and showing ppl without inventor license the viewing capacity.

Regards and thanks,

Yash

No you cannot default to trust the 3d content.. Its on a document by document basis only..

There are still quite a few limitations to 3d PDF's.. Autodesk is slowly adding functionality over years as the demand is shown.  Its a "Good" sales tool.. Just not "Great" yet 😉

Maybe you want to use "Inventor Read Only" mode with your manager instead? No license required there.. (I'm assuming it allows positional reps to be switched but you know what happens when you assume)

For the trusted content, check out this article to override security settings in adobe.  Unfortunately, it's not a good option as you would have to configure your bosses computer to be less secure.

I would be surprised if adobe's 3d pdf technology even has the capability of displaying positional representations.  Another option is to use autodesk design review and publish as .dwf file, which can display positional representations.  And is better that 3d pdf anyway for viewing the models.

Yes that is how you can disable it on a users computer. I forgot about that..

I thought they might be asking if there was a way you as the sender of the document could turn that off so you didn't need to instruct the end user of the PDF how to do that.

I've sent quite a few 3d PDFs only to find out people just ignored that and then couldn't see my 3d pdf models so then you need to email/communicate with them to check the box..blah blah..

Oh yeah, good point, that was the question.  As far as I know there isn't anything we can do on our end until Autodesk gets with Adobe and set up some certificates. . . all waaay above my pay grade 🙂

Hi Yash,

At the moment, exporting to 3D PDF may lose some data fidelity compared to dwf. If your supervisor does not mind installing Autodesk Design Review (free), I suggest you export the assembly to dwf. It preserves data fidelity next to opening iam file itself.

Many thanks!
