3D mouse not working when inventor is in foreground

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

Several users in my company are having the following issue:

the 3D mouse is NOT moving parts/models in inventor when it is in the foreground, but as soon as you put another window in front of it (for example a word file), then it will start to rotate the model/drawing when operating the mouse. They only have this issue with Inventor. When trying with autocad it works just fine or when the 3D connexion trainer is used it also works.

we're using inventor 2018 - fully updated (last months SP).

Has anyone seen this before and perhaps have a fix for it?

I did contact them but I'm not getting support there as the mouse that we use is a few years old and so are the drivers. These drivers haven't been updated in years. so it's not an issue with those. It's a problem within inventor, given the fact that the mice work just fine in Autocad Mechanical, DWG Trueview, Navisworks and the 3Dconnexion trainer.

What I already tried to do:

completely remove 3Dconnexion driver, folders and registry keys, reboot and reinstall.

repair of inventor

reinstall of inventor

Checked windows updates but none have been installed in the days prior to it not working anymore

I've checked the add ins but there is no 3DxInventor (or anything else from 3Dx for that matter).

3D mouse they're using is a spacepilot.

that driver only works with the new spacepilot pro not with the old spacepilot.
