3 Visibility questions

Hey,

I have a couple of questions which I couldn't find an answer to.

1. Is it possible to select an item (part/assembly) in an .iam and make all the parts but that one invisible? I know that it's possible to click on the item in the BOM to make it light up, but if the part is covered by a casing for instance it becomes harder to find the part (I didn't make the assemblies myself so I don't know where the parts are). I know I can select all the items under Model in the browser and make everything invisible and then make the item I need visible again but I am looking for something faster.

2. Is there a shortcut (hotkey) to make the item you selected invisible, or something  like an 'LMB for invisible' mode? A forum from 2012 said there wasn't and another said Alt+V but that doesn't seem to work.

3. When I'm in my .iam and select an item in the BOM it becomes highlighted in the graphics window, is there a feature like this available for the .ipn as well? Currently I have the .iam open only for locating the correct part in the assembly and after each part I select I'll have to switch back to the .ipn to tweak it. (The exploded views I make don't require all the parts to be exploded/tweaked)

Thanks a lot for your help!

For number 1 right click in the browser or on the part itself and select Isolate. When finished right click in the model display area and select Undo Isolate.

Thank you! One down, two to go.

I'll wait for the other two before accepting as solution.

Wow that one's really handy thanks so much! I was actually thinking of downloading a program for macro's but that's not even necessary now 🙂

Number 2

Hold down the Ctrl key and select as many parts you want.

Right click and select Visibility.

Hi! Regarding Isolate, I would like to suggest something. Isolate and Undo Isolate go side-by-side. It is a quick way to hide something in the context. But, after you finish the work on the isolated components, please make sure you Undo Isolate. Otherwise, the invisible components can be remain invisible and the status would be saved to Design View. When it happens, you would not be able to Undo Isolate. You will need to make invisible components visible manually.

Many thanks!

Hey, I tried this but it doesn’t seem to do anything. And after I chose V as shortcut (alias), my other shortcuts stopped working. It got fixed by unchecking ‘Use default multi-character Command Aliases’, so now I won’t get the Command alias input in the .dwg anymore and my B for Balloon works again. But in the .iam it still starts the Command alias input and doesn’t recognize V as an correct input. Any idea how I’m able to assign the visiblity to V or Alt+V or something?
