2023 Composite iMate frustration

I have two assemblies and I created a composite iMate properly named as far as I can tell from the online help. I have added each respect Composite to each other's Match List, and yet when I drop the assemblies into the third assembly, there is no iMate feedback whatsoever.

I followed the directions under the section "Matching composite iMates" here:

https://help.autodesk.com/view/INVNTOR/2023/ENU/?guid=GUID-6BDFF581-5D3D-4966-B4EE-6EC4F91743DE

This forum post seems close, but still didn't help.

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-forum/can-t-get-composite-imates-to-work-please-help/m-p/119...

One thing I read there is @Frederick_Law said "You can't split them to mate to different parts." That could be a problem if I understand right.

I've attached a ~3-minute screenshare video that explains what I'm doing this quicker than I can explain it.

Any help is appreciated!

I figured it out just minutes after I posted this, and after scratching my head for an hour!

The solution was simple: There was another, COMPLETELY unrelated constraint in the top level assembly that was sick. When I corrected that, I repeated the insertion process and the sub-assembly popped right into place onto the other sub-assembly.

Autodesk, it seems like there should have been some clue or hint to me that I needed to check there. There was no warning of any kind.

I would also add that changing the Model State destroys the constraints even though I have identically named copies. Maybe that was fixed in 2024 but it does create an inconvenience for me in 2023.
