2020.1 Hanging

Morning all,

We have just had Inventor 2020.1 installed and I am having some issues.

I have 2 large assemblies, one with 15500 items and one with 9500 items. When trying to save the larger of the two models Inventor freezes indefinitely. When trying to pattern individual ipts on the smaller model it freezes too.

This has been repeated on all three workstations here.

Can anyone shed some light on what might cause this?

Kind regards,

Jim

Welcome to the Autodesk User's Community..

Prior to installing this .dot release you had no issues?

When it freezes do you have to exit Inventor or does it come back to you?

Can you escape the command?

Hi Mark,

We originally had 2020 installed and the same issued were occurring then too.

Yes I have to exit inventor via the task manager when it locks up.

Kind regards,

Jim

It almost sounds like a dialog is off screen and waiting user input but that wouldn't be the case for the pattern function.   Did you try the escape key method?   And its only doing it on these two workflow?

Hi Mark,

Yeah the escape key does nothing.

The freeze comes after the pattern has executed, it loads the copies on screen then freezes.

The save freeze is instant as soon as i press the save button or ctrl+s

As far as I can tell it is only on these workflows.

Kind regards,

Jim

Hi Jim,

The behavior does not sound right to me. A few things to try before sharing your files with me.

1) Make sure all critical Windows updates are installed and graphics driver is updated.

2) Start a new assembly and insert the component to be pattern. Does it pattern there?

3) Close all files -> go to Tools -> App Options -> Assembly -> uncheck Express mode. Does it work better now?

If none of them work, please share the files with me directly ([email protected]).

Many thanks!

Hi Johnson,

1)All updates are installed and all drivers are up to date.

2) With a new assembly the same component patterns just fine.

3)This did not fix the issue.

I will send you WeTransfer links with the Pack&Go files.

Kind regards,

Jim

Hi Jim,

Many thanks for sharing the files! I have pulled down the files. There are two projects. I will not elaborate the data. Please let me know which iam file to open.

You did not mention your hardware spec. Also is "Enable Express Mode" checked (Tools -> App Options -> Assembly)?

Thanks again!

Hi Johnson,
Yes there are two files. The iams in question are IG019-02-01.iam & IG019-02-03.iam
I have unchecked 'express mode' as you mention in your post on the forum.
Kind regards,
Jim

Hi James,

Many thanks for sharing the detail! Let me confirm with you on the behaviors you are seeing. Are you seeing the cursor wheel spinning after you open and update? If yes, you may want to try the following option.

Go to Tools -> App Options -> Display -> "Disable Auto Refinement"

When this option is disabled, Inventor would not try refining graphics when you change your view. But, you might see coarser display like polygons. When you want to refine the display, go to View -> Refine Appearance.

Please report back your findings.

Many thanks!

Hey Johnson,

Sorry been away.

I never found a solution to the issues I was having. I assume it was to do with the sheer amount of parts within the assembly. I have completed my work on these now and have found no such issues on the next job I am working on.

Kind regards,

Jim
