2017 IMPORT - REFERENCE MODEL - REVISION CONTROL QUESTION

I am loving this new import with options. I don't even need to stress the power of the derive and the control that comes along with it.

I get a lot of models from the customer that I use as reference to create other parts around it. Which changes from time to time.

My question

so i have a model that is derived from the reference model. I am careful how i project and reference faces to ensure that when a change happens (nothing to major to change intent) it updates automatically (sometimes have to update references but that is no biggie)

If i overwrite the file then perform all necessary updates is there a way to go back and look at revision history? Or is it up to me to control that and copy rename the file? I could see this getting tedious.

Also does anyone have a good way to do 3D model comparing? instead of basically assembling them at common points and using interference analyzer?

Even though this is all usually preliminary and before design freeze Is it possible to rev control in PLM software? (vault, agile, meridian, etc)

thank you for any feedback

If you reference the model into your Inventor model, there's no control over revision/version aspect.  In the reference aspect Inventor is just maintaining the link to the native file and does not save that information like it would if you made changes to a normal Inventor part file.

However you can check the model reference into Vault and control it that way.  I can't speak for other document management systems.
