hi,

i have tried using inventor pro 15 as it was the one with the lowest required hardware specs but was experiencing issues. i would like to install 2014 as I am running 6gb ram, (windows 7) but it doesnt seem to be available according to the drop down list. does anyone know if 2015 should run ok with 6gb ram? or if 2014 is available?

regards

daniel

Welcome to the Autodesk User's Community..

Students or the educational community are only entitled to the current release (Inventor Pro 2018) and 3 legacy versions (2015-2017).  In addition the Autodesk 2014 product line is retired and no longer supported by Autodesk.

6gb of ram is below the requirements but its not always about Ram.  Its about the CPU process/speed, gracphics card, the type of models you would be creating and etc.

Hi Mark.Lancaster

Thanks for confirming that. The models that I have attempted to draw have been have been very simple. Is there a way to determine definitely if my system is up to scratch?

Daniel

What issues, be specific.

Can you create a Screencast demonstrating the specific issues that you are experiencing?

Hi Mark.Lancaster,

These are the details of my laptop that I can find from my computer-hardware:

Intel (R) core (TM) i7 -3667U CPU@2ghz

Ram 6gb (5.9gb usable)

2 processor cores

64 bit OS

30 gb hard disk free

Intel (R) HD graphics 4000

I understand my hard disk space may be low, I will make more space and reinstall the software.

Regards,

Daniel

The machine is not really adequate for Inventor.  Not saying it won't work but its under power and it will be slow...

Your computer will run any version of Inventor.. Its just not going to be "fast" by any means with any version..

Inventor is not something you can just throw on a "low cost" laptop and expect it to be speedy..

But it can be loaded and work (slowly) on just about any laptop made in the last 10 years..

Why are you gong to reinstall the software?

You still have not specified the issues that you are experiencing.

Can you create a Screencast illustrating the issues?

Did you even get the software installed and running?

Can you model  a simple cube and attach the *.ipt file here?

And the most important question, "What version is your school using?"

I have attached a screenshot of what I have been asked to draw from my tutor and a .ipt file of my effort. The issue I am having is that the lines, on adding the dimensions, are going over the boundary of the cuboid.

Did you check your Reply?

Are you using web browser to reply or are you using mobile phone app to reply?

No attachments?

I am going to guess that you are confusing part sketch with 2D detail drawing.

Can you ask your tutor to join this discussion?

Hi JDMather,

I replied through my outlook account as before but the attachments didn't send. Anyway I have attached the files through the autodesk forum this time. One thing I have noticed is that my tutors effort is surrounded with a yellow line. I have followed his instructions correctly I believe so is there a specific reason for this? I saved my effort as a .ipt file so it changed to 3D and rotated, but I was drawing in 2D sketch mode as per the tutors.

Thanks in advance.

The yellow lines are created with the Project Geometry and then select the edges of the part.

Your Sketch2 and 3 are not fully defined - the position of the Holes can be dragged off of the part.

Check your Origin Center Point position too.

You should start a new thread for these issues as this is not related to download or install of the software (the title of the thread).
