Can someone please tell me why I cannot put a 1" BSP (parallel) thread on a 1" pipe? It alerts me with the following:
Solved! Go to Solution.
BSP threads are size in relation to the NOMINAL BORE of the pipe NOT the outsize diameter.
To obtain a 1in thread on a pipe you will need 1 3/8 OD pipe, then select the 1in BSP from the threads list, the NB of a pipe to obtain a 1in thread is either a 5/8 NB (15/16 OD) Pipe or 3/4 NB (1 1/16 OD) Pipe
I'm a little confused now, if I'm honest! - the imperial world baffles me slightly....
if i can explain in greater detail.
I want to thread (as shown below) on the outside of a 1" heavy gauge polypropylene pipe, where OD = 33.5mm & ID=26.1mm
is this not possible, or am I missing something?!
If you are certain that you want a BSP thread then you need to treat the end of the pipe as you would in "real life".
"Machine" the end of the pipe (revolve cut) to 1.309" (33.2mm) outside diameter before applying the thread.

thanks Wayne, that worked.
