Is it possible to edit harness properties, for instance, RefDes, of electrical components via API?
We need it for integration of Inventor Professional with local ECAD software.

Andreis,

It is possible to do that, but we may have problems about intellectual
property and can't expose everthing to you. Could you please describe in
detail what you're going to do and why you're going to do this? And we'll
see what we can do on our end.

Thanks,
-Richard

Ok. We are developers of Electrical CAD software called ElectriCS, which available on local Russian market from one side and biggest Inventor resseler in Russia from other side.
In this situation we want to make combined solution.
ElectriCS can export XML with wire definitions and list of components and connected pins. Also all electrical components as files can be taken from ElectriCS database and inserted in model.
So we want to finalize integration utility, which will do following:
1. Insert models in Assembly
2. Change harness properties of electrical components and pins to be the same as it was designed in ElectriCS
3. Import wire definitions to connect components.

Now we can do #1
#3 can be done via standard Inventor Pro function
#2 I think that it's possible, but it's not documented in API.

Hi, Andreis,

For the second issue in your list, I¡¯ve talked with the developers of Cable
and Harness, and it turns out, using current API, you can¡¯t do that. To
achieve your goal, we have to create new functions to import the properties
from exported xml to existing connectors, and that would be out of our
current scope. I¡¯ve logged a wish list item (ID 820958) in our database for
you and transferred it to our Product Designer. Hopefully it can be solved
in future releases.

Thanks,
-Richard

I'm very intrested in this functional (adding RefDes parameter by API) too.

Is it possible in Inventor 2014?
