A few colleagues of mine are using student versions of Maya as we are fresh out of college and will be purchasing commercial licenses to start up our business. That being said, we would prefer to use some assets created with the student version license. I have been doing a lot of research and have found a lot of mixed information:
Some posts from earlier 2017 are stating that anything made in the student version will have to be remade in its entirety-- which is a bother, but understandable given the circumstances.
Some posts later in 2018 (attached from another forum) are stating that student version files can be converted to commercial license files by re-opening them in a commercial version of Maya-- making them available for commercial use. (See Photo)
If there is some alternative where you can pay to upgrade certain files to be used commercially that could also be an option our company will utilize as well.
I would just like some clarification so we know which path we have to take to comply to the licensing guidelines and not get in any legal trouble.
An Autodesk representative with knowledge of licensing would be preferable to answer this question.
Thank you in advance!

Hi @cjmassa2000,
A student license has the following terms attached: * Free Autodesk software and/or cloud-based services are subject to acceptance of and compliance with the terms and conditions of the software license agreement or terms of service that accompany such software or cloud-based services. Software and cloud-based services subject to an Educational license may be used solely for educational purposes and shall not be used for commercial, professional, or any other for-profit purposes.
Using a student file for commercial uses would violate the above and so you can't do it and stay within the above terms.
