TrueView 2018 without the shortcut

Hello Community,

I'm trying to perform silent installation of DWG TrueView 2018 without placing is shortcut on Desktop.

I configured setup.ini file by setting CREATE_DESKTOP_SHORTCUT=NO

I even changed dwgviewr.msi property table by setting DEFAULTDESKTOPSHORTCUT to "0"

I'm using this command for installation:

Setup.exe /q /i setup.ini /c AOEM:ADSK_DESKTOPSHORTCUT_1=0 DEFAULTDESKTOPSHORTCUT=0

But still I'm getting Desktop shortcut.

Please suggest what i forgot to do.

Thank you in advance.

I've never made a single or silent installation of DWG Trueview so I don't have an answer for you.  It may be one of those installations that just ignores the options.

Activate/Create a MSI log file and check there the value of the property: ADSK_DESKTOPSHORTCUT_1

If the value is <> "1" you should not see a shortcut on your desktop.

I used a transformation (.mst) to adapt for my requirements..

Nope, in 2017 version this option worked fine.

Hello. Not sure I can give you the answer you are looking for as you are hacking the installer to change the install behavior. What you’re doing is what I would do, though I would check in the program setup.ini file again and test by deleting the desktop icon setting altogether or commenting the file to skip the code completely.  Maybe clear the temp folder before install, in case it's using cached settings.

Honestly, it may be easier to run a simple script after the install to delete the icon. May save you time.

Hello,

Already did that - removed everything regarding the shortcut from the ini file - no luck.

Yes, it is easier to remove shortcut after install - but the problem is that it will appear for a few minutes before installation will finish. And it can be deleted only after installation will finish completely. Users starting to complain about "blinking" icons on their desktops. So I really need this shortcut not to appear on desktop at all.

This is big surprise for me, that is not working as it designed by developers.

Just tried:

Added the following line to my setup.ini:

PRODUCT_NAME=Autodesk® DWG TrueView™ 2018 - English
PREREQUISITE=OS_VISTA_BLOCK;IE;SSE2;;VCREDIST2008SP1X86;VCREDIST2008SP1X64;VCREDIST2010SP1X86;VCREDIST2010SP1X64;VCREDIST2012X86UPD4;VCREDIST2012X64UPD4;VCREDIST2015X86;VCREDIST2015X64;DIRECTX;DOTNET46;DOTNET46LANG;MSXML6;WMF95X64
EXE_PATH=%platform%\dwgviewr\dwgviewr.msi
EXE_PARAM=
EXTRA_FILES=aoem;aoem\*.ico
TRANSFORMS=%platform%\dwgviewr\LcsDesktopOff.mst
LOG=%temp%\dwgviewrInstall.log

Before I created the LcsDesktopOff.mst with an msi editor (1 minute work) and put it to the same location as the dwgviewr.msi

Tested on a virtual machine and works as it should. And this is definitely better than using script.

Markus
