My son was setting up his student account - unsupervised - and put that our operating system is a PC when it is a MAC. Please help him get ungrounded by telling me how and where to change this.

Its not a major problem or issue.  Just go back https://www.autodesk.com/education/free-software/featured and request the product in the MAC OS you'll need.   Are you talking about AutoCAD?  Or something else?

Educational and student accounts have limited supported since they get their product for free.  So its basically through the forums or the Autodesk Educational Support Team.

Anyhow you have never indicated what you are trying to download.   Autodesk Product and Version?

That's the problem..  Inventor is a Windows 64B only based application.   You will need to have a Windows partition on your MAC using Bootcamp or Parallels

As In indicated earlier there's only a few applications that Autodesk offers that runs on a MAC OS and Inventor is not one of them
