start up problems: licence

I wonder if anyone can help

I installed my AutoCAD LT package and all was working well until yesterday when I tried to start the software and received the following message

"The License manager is not functioning or is improperly installed. AutoCAD will shut down now."

I have been sent instructions on how to fix but cannot find any of the files referenced

I am obviously missing something or am technically challenged

any help gratefully received

What fix were you sent exactly? if it's this one you probably need to take it to a computer repair store if you don't have an I.T./Network expert friend to lean on https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/AutoCA...

Hello @SupportKrempel,

Thank you for posting in the forum.

Configuration NLM & License File

The license file contains important licensing and server information and is used to configure your server so that you can run the License Manager. Confirm the MAC address on license file and network server 2080@_____ at network setup of the program and make sure it matches up.

Welcome to the community...

You need to follow the information that @pendean has already provided.   The folder location as specified in the article is based on a hidden folder location.  You must change your viewing options to show hidden files and folders.   Also another key is too make sure the service that is described in that article is enabled and running.

Hello @Anonymous,

I understand you encountered an issue with your Autodesk product and that the following solution "AutoCAD 2017: The License manager is not functioning or is improperly installed". You have received support and this solution worked for you.

STEP 1: Forcing reactivation of the product

  • Close any running Autodesk programs.
  • Remove all files under C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\ADUT.
  • Remove all files under C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ADUT.
  • Go to C:\ProgramData\FLEXnet and delete all files that start with adskflex.

STEP 2 - Reset the license information

  • Using Windows Explorer, browse to the following folder:
    C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\CLM\LGS\<Product_Key>_2017.0.0.F

If the folder does not exist, create it.

LGS_data.png

Note: The <Product_Key> must match the product that is giving the error. For example, if you get the error with 3ds Max 2017 you need to use product key 128I1. This is true even if you installed from a suite.

Delete the LGS.data file, if it exists.

  • Using Notepad (or preferred text editor) create a new text file called LGS.data

Add the following text to the text file:
_STANDALONE (or _NETWORK if the product uses a network license). The text must be all capital letters.

LGS_data2.png

Save the file to the following folder:
C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\CLM\LGS\<Product_Key>_2017.0.0.F

Launch 3ds Max 2017 - you will need to reactivate it.

Hello @serdarland,

What error message are you receiving? If its not the same please attach it.

If you have the same exact error and ran through the steps above. Try following these steps below:

  1. Conduct a Clean Uninstall of the program use MSfixitTool to complete the uninstall (make sure to remove residual files)
  2. Log in as an Administrator
  3. Empty your TEMP folder. To open the TEMP folder, type %TEMP% in the address bar of Windows Explorer and hit Enter
  4. Temporarily disable your Antivirus software & Firewall
  5. Temporarily disable UAC:  Windows 7Windows 10
  6. Download all of the parts Autodesk Virtual Agent
  7. Locate the download folder and extract (double click) part _001_00X.sfx.exe. If you have a permission issue right click and select, Run as administrator
  8. Files will be directed to C:\Autodesk
  9. Follow the prompts to install the program

I hope this answered your question or resolved the issue, if so please click Kudos or the "thumbs-up!" Did my response help resolve the issue? Please "Accept As Solution" to help others in the community.

Hello @serdarland,

I understand you are experiencing an issue activating the software. Try accessing the help drop down help drop down.png when you run the trial. You can update and activate from within the product by following the steps below.

Update Serial Number from Software Menu

  1. Follow one of these paths in your software Help menu (path may vary by product):
    • Help > About
    • Help > About [Product Name]
    • Help > Autodesk Product Information > About [Product Name]
  2. In the About window, click Manage License.
  3. Select Update
  4. Input the Serial # and select Activate

Please let us know how it goes. Thank you. Smiley Happy

Hello @serdarland,

Make sure you do not have any programs running in the background, by accessing Task Manager (ctrl+alt+delete) "End Task" for any unnecessary items running. Shutdown and restart the computer. Locate the following folder C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\CLM\LGS\001I1_2017.0.0.F and delete it, try to open/launch the product.

Hopefully the "Let's Get Started" screen will allow you to "Enter Serial" and activiate.

Please let me know how it goes. Smiley Happy

Good morning @natasha.l

Hope you are still active, because I have two little questions regarding the topic in the questions:

1."Conduct a Clean Uninstall of the program use MSfixitTool to complete the uninstall (make sure to remove residual files)"

The MSfixitTool removes what type of residual files? Registry files, License files or additional application that come with software; for examples ReCap Photo, Autodesk Storm and Sanitary Analysis, that comes with C3D?.  Or said applications need to be uninstall separately?

2. What does "AUDT" steands for?

I am working with IT, and I like to provide meaning to remove all uncertainty out of the air.

3. Can the Autodesk Download Manager assist in the uninstall of Software too?

Thank you for your help and time. Wish you a great day.

@jeffrey.s.barrero

The Microsoft Fixit utility will only uninstall the selected app and any registry information that's related to it.   If there are mutiple apps being uninstalled then you have to repeat the process.   But Fixit should only be used if you have issues after you ran the normal uninstall through Windows Control Panel.

AUDT?   What are you talking about?   Or do you mean the ADUT folder she mentioned?

The Autodesk download manager is just a tool to download/extract and start your Autodesk product installation.   It has nothing to do with uninstalling...

Good afternoon @Mark.Lancaster

1. I think my teammate was under the impression the Fit it Tool would assist with the uninstall, and I just wanted to corroborate what you just stated; just to be verify.

2. Yes the ADUT folder where License files are store, and just anticipating an IT questions. Do to regulations, and restrictions I (users) can't run admin, and have to submit a ticket to get support; they have to verify information for their documentation, and I like to have all of it if possible before hand to expedite the process.

3. Thank you for the clarification.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions, and hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Hello @jeffrey.s.barrero

In this case, the Microsoft Fix it Tool will help remove registry entries left behind by your uninstalled Autodesk software.

Windows Administrator privileges will be required to run this tool.

Running the Microsoft Fix it Tool can be optional, but it is recommended especially to avoid re-installation issues in the future.

Please let us know if you have anymore questions.
