Revit 2021 Uninstalls when Installing Revit 2022

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has had complications when installing Revit 2022?

We've had 2 instances in my office where computers that are running Windows 10 have had Revit 2021 uninstall automatically and without warning. 

For a bit more context, these computers have Revit 2018-2021 already installed, and we followed the same standard processes of downloading/installing Revit 2022 through the Autodesk portal. It was only by chance that we realised 2021 no longer existed in our downloaded programs when we tried searching for it (and the install files) on the hard drive. Both these computers are roughly 2 years old and identical in their hardware/software setup. There was also ample storage space for the new program, and there were no errors encountered in the installation process.

Just wondering if this is an isolated issue or if there is something embedded in the Revit 2022 install which triggers the previous Revit version to uninstall.

If anyone has any feedback that would be great.

Bumping this topic because it just happened to a user in our environment. Using the same SCCM based installation we use on all machines. One user reports her Revit 2020 and 2021 had uninstalled. I've never seen anything like this in all my up and ready experience.

Has anyone tried reinstalling Revit 2021 after this happened? I can't run a repair... so i'm a little baffled and unsure how to proceed.

@natasha.l I'm bumping this because we've been working on this and have had to help a few users get this resolved. My understanding is that the issue is related to the Autodesk Genuine Service. We have learned that if a user has the Revit 2021.1.6 installed when the Revit 2022.1.1.516 installation is run this damages Revit 20 and 21 installations.

This is our fix

Uninstall Revit 2022

Uninstall Revit 2021 (and 2020 if needed)

Install Revit 2022 then apply updates

Install Revit 2021 then apply updates

-or-

Re-image the machine with all the latest versions of the software

There are ways around this, but to my understanding, the Autodesk Genuine Service that is installed with Revit 2022 doesn't match Revit 2021.

I can attest to this exact issue as well; albeit, our scenario involved Revit 2023 installer (performed by user from the Autodesk Desktop App) which in turn automatically removed Revit 2021 --> then not being able to reinstall Revit 2021 on the machine. Log file does not appear to indicate any particular reason why Revit 2021 won't reinstall (that we've been able to locate at this time). Will post back if we learn anything from our investigation.

While I never had this problem for Revit 2021/2022, I'm starting to see it uninstall Revit 2022 when installing Revit 2023 or upgrading 2022. It's done it to 3 computers so far and I'm starting to think the Autodesk Desktop App has something to do with it.

We are having this issue and discovered that when we uninstall Generative Design addin Revit will install...

Unfortunatly not an isolated issue.

We had the same happening in our company on several computers. Only IT has admin rights so the users themselves cannot deinstall software.

Also having the same problem and reinstalling 2021 results in an error 'AnavRes.dll not found'

Are you by chance using the Autodesk Desktop App for your software upgrade?
Was there a prompt t any time telling you the 2021 version was being uninstalled, or did it happen silently?
