Hello,
I was attempting to install Revit 2021 from the Autodesk App yesterday on Windows 10, 20H2 update. I ran through the download process, ran the installer, and I was prompted to reboot the computer to complete the installation. I closed all other programs and clicked "restart". The computer shut down but was stuck on the Dell splash screen with a loading icon for well over 15 minutes. I did a hard shutdown (via the power button), which resulted in the same issue. Upon the second hard shutdown the computer entered recovery mode, and I selected advanced repair. After about 15 minutes, the computer restarted and then booted properly. I was able to log-in but the Revit 2021 installation was not present and I received several errors regarding "Personal Accelerator for Revit" missing. I resolved that problem via a separate Autodesk help page fix.
Anyway, my question is what could have possibly caused my computer to fail to restart after the Revit 2021 install? I have Revit 2018, 2019, and 2020 installed along with AutoCAD 2021. I'm hesitant to re-attempt an install considering I was unable to perform any work while waiting for the computer to fix itself. I don't NEED Revit 2021 right now but I had some downtime so I figured I'd have it ready for future projects.
if your computer is not rebooting properly thats a computer issue
have you contacted dell yet?
that's where the problem needs to be directed to i would start there before putting the blame directly on Revit
I have not contacted Dell because I truly thought this was a Revit install issue.
Given those three thoughts, I logically believe an error occurred due to the Revit install. Now, to be fair, I don't know that with 100% certainty, but that's my thought process and hence the question.
