Revit 2018 Materials Library Missing (BDSP)

I have just realized that I don't have the materials library installed on my machine, naturally I am going to need it. We have Revit 2018 as part of BDSP 2018.

I cannot find an .msi file for the material library despite my lengthy searching. I've also run the installer again to see if it's in there somewhere, but no such luck.

Note that I haven't installed all programs that form BDSP 2018, such as AutoCAD 2018, 3Ds Max 2018, etc. If the material library is in one of those other programs it's certainly not well documented.

I do not have the time to install each of those programs to find out, otherwise I would have done that already. Can someone provide a direct download for the library? Or at least point me in the right direction?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

@Jacob_United

Can you clarify what libraries you're referring? Are you looking for the Content Libraries like families or the actual material libraries?

If the Material Libraries failed to install, it would continue with the Revit installation so, I'm guessing you're referring to Revit Content Libraries...

Please post the installation log files found in your %temp% directory.

Hello @Jacob_United,

I hope you resolved the issue, we have not heard back from you but you can locate them

here Autodesk Material Library     \Content\ADSKMaterials or look in the control panel to see if they are installed.

Regardless you may be better of uninstalling & reinstalling. You may be missing files during the download process.

  1. Conduct a Clean Uninstall of the program use MSfixitTool to complete the uninstall
  2. Temporarily disable UAC:  Windows 7 , Windows 10
  3. Temporarily disable your Antivirus software & Firewall
  4. Empty your TEMP folder. To open the TEMP folder, type %TEMP% in the address bar of Windows Start Menu and hit Enter
  5. Log in as an Administrator
  6. Use "Browser Download" Method from Autodesk Account or via the Autodesk Virtual Agent (download all the parts)

Let us know how it goes.

I have done all the suggestions, downloaded all Revit 2018 parts 1 thru 3, multiple downloads of all the tools. Everything works great, but I still have no control of my Materials. When I am modeling and try to select a material or manage the materials nothing shows up, I click on them and get nothing. This is tiring as I have went to the Autodesk Virtual Download and there is only Revit 2018 Parts 1 thru 3, but no where can it find the materials Library or the Rendering Library. Is there a solution somewhere, none of the solutions have worked for me. Thanks though for helping others here also

Hello @it,

This is an issue occurring with Revit 2015,2016, 2017 & 2018, now that we know you had a good install, please take a look at this article to install the contents on your computer Revit: Templates and families not installed

Thank you for posting. Smiley Happy

To be honest and frank, no solutions here solved my issue. However, I completely uninstalled all the 2018 Revit files on my computer, did a fresh install and made a secondary materials folder. After everything was installed, I cut the files from the materials folder, put them into my secondary materials folder (materials 2) then renamed the original materials folder to "materials x", then renamed my "Materials 2 folder" to materials and now it is all working. Thanks everyone for your help, but this one I had to figure on my own.

Hello @it,

Glad to hear that a clean uninstall & reinstall provided you with the libraries. Then locating, relocating & renaming the folder helped you resolve the issue.

Thank you for contributing. Smiley Happy
