Recent Microsoft Security Updates reported to be causing issues

Hello I&L Community,

We have become aware that Microsoft recently released some security updates for Windows operating systems.

These updates will affect AutoCAD's functionality with Excel data. Inventor 2015-2011 also appears to be affected.

The three update numbers are:

  • KB4041681 (Windows 7)
  • KB4041676 (Windows 10 OS Build 15063.674)
  • KB4041691 (Windows 10 OS Build 15063.674)

Solution:

The remedy at this point in time is to simply uninstall the security updates, (depending on your build) check the latest updates for a reported fix from Microsoft & install them from the Windows Update Center.

Microsoft has released a statement addressing this issue on (Windows 10 OS Build 15063.674) & how it is related to a publishing issue:

"We have corrected the publishing issue as of the afternoon of October 10th and have validated the cumulative security updates. We recommend all  customers take these cumulative security updates."

Another solution, to be taken at the customer’s own risk is to change the following registry key setting:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\Inventor\RegistryVersion XX.0\System\Preference\Part\UseExcelToReadthreadFile to 1
