Hi, I used to use my education license of Maya when I was studying at uni. I had a few projects that were made in that version. I've since finished Uni and stopped using the education license and now pay for a Maya indie License.
I decided today to go back and look at some of those projects but when opened I was greeted with a warning that it was made in an Education Version and "use of this data by an education institution or for commercial purpose is a violation of your Maya License Agreement". This warning kind of frighten me and made me close those projects.
Is it a violation to open those projects using the education version on my new license or does it mean something else?
Thank you in advance for your answers.

That is as designed
You can’t use any of those files for commercial purposes you will need to recreate them in the indie version

I think the idea is to prohibit the use of educational material in a commercial environment. This to prevent a company from hiring a bunch of students using an el-cheapo license to do all the work for that company.

Okay, I can understand that but that still doesn’t really answer my
question.
Am I allowed to open this older files made with educational version license
with my new license and if I am, am I able to export these projects for use
as references to recreate them with my newer license or is that violating
my agreements?
Don't over-think it: all content created when the license was EDU is not for commercial use regardless of what license you operate under today. Ask your legal counsel for further advice if you feel it necessary to do so.
I've spoken to Autodesk Support and opening the files made in the Education version in a commercial version isn't allowed. I'm wont be opening these files and will be getting rid of them now.
