Hi,
Does anyone know how to automate the installation of LT 2004 on a Windows
2000 Active Directory network? I've read some documentation that was pretty
critical of 2002's ability to remotely install, but was hoping for
improvement in 2004.

I would greatly appreciate it if anyone had any experience or has heard of
how this can be done. Best yet - is there a spot on Autodesk.com that
documents the procedure?

Chris,

There are a few documents on deploying the standalone version using VB
script and the MSI installer. You can also have a look at the following
documents for some information for the stand alone license version as LT
does not support network licensing. I would be interested in the references
you mention on 2002's inability to remote install as many do this especially
for full AutoCAD.

My server is a Win2K server with Active Directory.

I just followed the instructions and it worked as advertised. Mind you, I
have only set up 2 wkstations so far, so not well tested yet.

Yes, here also, the network deployment went without a hitch. Now I'm looking
for an easy way to set up all the support drives and such. LT doesn't do
profiles, how else do you make sure everyone's install is set up the same
without going around to each machine and doing it manually?

I'm curious if AutoDesk has any plans to begin supporting MSI packaging software solutions such as the one offered by Wise Package Studios (www.wise.com). I have had little success in getting the AutoCAD LT 2004 MSI to work with a 3rd party transform file or to try and repackage the MSI entirely. I will review the notes posted on this discussion thread to see if I can use the AutoDesk method for network installations but our biggest focus was trying to get the AutoCAD LT 2004 to work without admin or power user privledges (we can accomplish this task however, if we can repackage it using VB). We are currently running AD within a fully deployed Windows 2000 Desktop environment. I have experienced little resistance from other software vendors and was curious what plans AutoDesk has (if any) to work with 3rd party software packages? Thank you.--Kjrk
