Microsoft Application Virtualization & VDI Compatibility of AutoCAD 2012

As part the Enterprise Desktop Transformation project, there's a requirement to virtualize the application AutoCAD 2012 and would like to know few details regarding the application :

1. Is the application still supported if we virtualize it with Microsoft App-V 4.6 SP1 ?

2. Does the Application’s License Policy support the application if virtualized ?

3. Is the application supported if installed on Virtual Desktop Environments [VDI/Citrix XenDesktop/Hyper-v]?

4. Does the Application’s License policy support the Application on Virtual Desktop Environment? If not then is there any license policy that supports the Application on Virtual Desktop Environment?

Virtualization and AutoCAD, Currently only supported on Citrix.

Hi! What about 2013-2014 products (AutoCAD,Revit,Plant 3D, Civil)? Only Citrix decisions is possible?

We are also interested in finding out if there's any decisions to go with App-V the Micirosoft version of application virtualization in the future as we start to migrate to Windows 8.1 in the future.

We are interested in getting away from Workstations for every seat in our computer labs in order to save taxpayer money, and invest in server technology from a central management standpoint.

Can someone update this?

Hi, 

You can run most Autodesk solutions on a VDI environment, the only limitation so far we have found is AutoCad LT, Revit LT, etc LT versions seem not to be compatiaple on virtual hardware. 

Majenta are an Autodesk partner as well as having an I.T division so looking at workstation virtualisation (VDI) has been a key strategic focus. NVIDIA and the GRID solution has been a key enabler as you may be aware however its not as simple as sticking a GRID card and off you go, its an entire solution stack.

If you would like to discuss it further do let me know as we have demo environements on Autodesk software acting as a VDI POC to potential users.
