Maya 2018 does not start

Anonymous

Hello Support,

since the beginning of this week I can not open Maya 2018 anymore.

I would really appreciate suggestions and help - thank you very much in advance!

My Setup is the following

HP Z440 Workstation

Nividia Quadro K2200

Windows 10 Pro 1607

Maya 2018 (annual subscription till June 2019)

What exactly happens

When I start Maya the Login-Window comes on.

After entering the Data a blank Output-Window opens.

Maya.exe is run in the background (can only be seen in the Taskmanager).

On the Windows-Screen nothing happens.

What I did to solve the issue

Updating GPU Driver

Doing a clean Uninstall and Reinstall

Repairing existing Installations

Repairing Autodesk Licensing Service

Clear Flexnet files

Setting Flexnet to start automatically

What I can not do (due company regulations)

Setting up another Windows-User-Account

Reinstalling Windows

Hello @Anonymous,

Thank you for posting to the community.

You can try the steps below to reset & regenerate the LGS file, it seems to be what you are describing.

  1. Close & reboot the computer
  2. Locate the following folder:
    C:\User\username\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\ADUT
  3. Rename this folder to: ADUT2
  4. Delete the three (3) files prefixed with Adskflex  from the following folder:
    C:\ProgramData\FLEXnet\
*Note: The above files are Hidden files. You may need to enable "Show Hidden Files" in Folder options.
  5. Delete, create & save a LGS.data file following these steps:
  • Create a LGS.data file & delete the original: Open Notepad  Type at the very top    _USER
  • Change the file extension to .data
  • Save it to the Desktop & place it in the folder  C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\CLM\LGS\<product key>_<product version>

     8. When you launch your Autodesk software, you will be prompted to sign in

If the above did not resolve the problem, also try:

Temporarily disable security settings like Antivirus, Firewall & UAC on your system

Subscription Licensing Issues

Update your product with the latest service pack or Hotfixes by visiting the Autodesk website or account

Do you have .NET 4.5 and all other components and other software installed?

Hello Leo,

Registration tells me that the following .NET Versions are installed:

v.2.0.50727

v.3.0.30729.4926

v3.5.30729.4926

v4.6.01586

v4.7.02053

What other components might be missing? The thing is that maya stopped working from one day to the other, so I think it has something to do with an updated software in connection with Maya. No new software was installed, neither were updates (knowingly).

Hello @Anonymous,

Please share the error window you receive with us in a screenshot. You can try to apply the application update.

If you at least have Maya 2018.3 or later installed you can apply the latest update, which is Maya 2018.5:

  • Windows operating systems

This update will change the existing version of Maya that is already installed

  • Mac and Linux operating systems

To apply this update please uninstall your existing Maya 2018 software before installing this update

Hello Natasha,

sadly I am out of office today but will try to update Maya tomorrow and then come back to you again.

Instead of an error message the following happens everytime I try to start Maya:

When I start Maya the Login-Window comes on.

After entering the Data a blank Output-Window opens.

Maya.exe is run in the background (can only be seen in the Taskmanager).

On the Windows-Screen nothing happens.

Hello @Anonymous,

Ok, lets try the other common solutions associated with start up issues. Try launching/starting Maya, then use

 >Event Viewer<  to locate the system error associated with it.

One of the common solutions may need to be conducted:

  1. Sign in as Administrator or Create a New User Account (Full Control user permissions)
  2. Make sure you have an updated graphics card driver by checking the manufacturer's website then (Assign the correct Graphics Card) or try using DirectX instead of OpenGL viewports(Windows> Preferences) & set the display type to  DirectX.
  3. Temporarily disable your Antivirus software & Firewall
  4. Temporarily disable UAC on  Windows 7 or Windows 10
  5.  How to reset Maya to defaults

Keep us posted.

Hello Natasha,

thank you for the help.

1) The event viewer does not show anyt Maya-related errors, warnings or anomalies

2) Maya does not start at all, so I can not change any viewport settings.

3) The Nvidia Quadro K2200 runs with the latest drivers (not Maya certified) - the Maya-certified drivers are not compatible with Windows 10

4) Disabling Antivirus Protection does not help.

Hi @Anonymous

I see you are running Windows 10 Pro 1607. I would try to update Windows 10 to the latest version (1809), then try again.

If the issue persists, try the steps highlighted in this article and let us know how it goes.

Hello Davide,

thank you for the hint. After creating the variable the output screen does not come up anymore, but beside that the problem remains.

I also tried resetting Windows to a prior state which failed. Now I consider a complete new Windows setup.

Hi @Anonymous

Have you already tried to update Windows 10 to the latest build? Running older builds could lead to scenarios like the one you are seeing. I'd give Windows Update a try before re-imaging the system.

I had my system being setup completely new.

The windows build now is 1803

I installed MAYA 2019 and it still has the same issue.

This is how it loos in the taskmanager, when Maya is started, but nothing actually happens.

If this problem cant be fixed soon I will definitely cancel all my subscriptions because this is a waste of money and time.
