Licensing Error Code 104

Anonymous
Not applicable

randomly last week i was trying to get on AutoCAD 2015 and I got a licensing error, unable to initialize adlm. Error code 104, when I look up the error code it says "unable to borrow that long". this is the only use of the license so I don't understand that and I can't do anything (even uninstall to re-install).  I have tried repairing the program, I have tried reinstalling the program, I have tried uninstalling the program, I have tried restarting the computer and even restoring the computer.  this error will not allow me into any AutoCAD program in my design suite and I have ran out of things to try.  Please any help would be great.

Hello andrewstewart6946, and welcome to the Forums!

The error you are describing is a NLM (Network License Manager) error, but there are several that are similar. Are you using the NLM, or is this a standard subscription license?

Can you please either send a screenshot of the error, or post an exact description of the error?

Also, what Windows OS are you using? Often errors can be OS specific.

Stevetemplen -

Thank you for responding so quickly.  I have attached my error message.  After I hit okay the program keeps trying to initalize but ultimately fails and closes.  This computer uses a NLM but it is the only user.

Thanks, I have found more info on the error, but I still need to know two things:

1. What windows OS are you using?

2. Did this work, then stop working for some reason (software update, OS upgrade, etc.), or has it ever worked?

Please check out this article, and let me know if this solves the problem or not:

Unable to intialize adlm: "Error Code: <-104>"

We utilize Windows 7, the system was working fine then I went to try and add a component which was recommended to me. For the life of me I can't remember the componenet but it required to change the program in the change/uninstall.  I didn't realize I didn't have administration privlages and so the computer said I can't change the program with admin privlages.  I thought nothing of it and now it wont open.  I worked on the issue for about 6 hours yesterday and couldn't change, repair or uninstall the program (even though I had administration privalages at that point).  I was told on one of the boards to wipe out the adlm folder completly and try a reinstall or repair.  Both were sucessful but the program still will not open (same error).

Well, it sounds like you have a corrupt install of AutoCAD 2015.

There are several things you can try; I will give them to you from least invasive to complete uninstall/reinstall of AutoCAD.

Remember, all of these things need to be done as Admin. Do not forget to reboot between changes.

1. Try the fix I mentioned in my last post:

Unable to intialize adlm: "Error Code: <-104>"

If that doesn't work, try this:

How to repair AutoCAD installation

If neither of the above work, try these:

Clean uninstall of AutoCAD or verticals

There are two different fixes in the above article, so first try the MS Fixit tool, then if it doesn't work, reboot and try the complete uninstall, then after another reboot, reinstall.

I know it is a lot of work, but when an install gets messed up, it takes some work to resolve.

If none of the above works, you may have a corrupt Windows user profile, and will need to try using a different Windows login.

In Steve's response, he lists 2 solutions but he also mentions below the solutions that the problem could be LMU might not be running.

I tried THAT first and it fixed the problem.

It is worth trying it first because reinstall is a real pain 🙂

~ Here is what he wrote:

Note: This error could also be caused when LMU.exe is not running.

You can start LMU.exe manually by double-clicking the file in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\AdLM\  and then the version-specific R folder (e.g. R11).

You may also need to run C:\Program Files\Common Files\Macrovision Shared\FlexNet Publisher\FNPLicenseingService64.exe file so that FlexNet Licensing Service 64 was started.

Thank you Steve!!!
