licence types question

Can someone please explain to me the difference between my license options ( maintenance or subscription ) and the costs of them.

Currently we are on the maintenance plan. I dont know what the difference is between the 2 types and the cost.

Apparently we have to choose one or the other moving forward.

Thanks

Alex

a maintenance plan means you own a perpetual license that you can continue to use if you don't renew

a Subscription plan means you are renting the software if you don't renew the software  the software will not be usuable anymore

for pricing info you will need to talk to your reseller on differences

Thanks Darren,

Just so I understand this.

I can use 3ds max 2018 for every but I cannot upgrade or get patches unless I renew? Renew what exactly? My current perpetual license?

If I choose subscription then I am basically renting the software. So any upgrades and or patches would be covered in my monthly fee?

Hello @Anonymous,

Welcome, just to add to the helpful information provided please review the following:

Perpetual Licenses

  • As of January 31, 2016, Autodesk stopped selling new perpetual licenses for most individual Autodesk software products.
  • A Maintenance Plan is only associated with perpetual licenses
  • This license allows permanent, non-time-limited use of an Autodesk product

Subscription Licenses

  • Subscriptions are the new Autodesk licensing model
  • Subscription licenses offer a single-user or multi-user option
  • This license is term-based, subscribed to for a limited amount of time, requiring renewal for continued access

Here is some more detailed information on the differences:

What to Consider Before Moving from Maintenance to Subscription

Question for you Natasha,

If I am still on a Maintenance plan, will I have to eventually switch over to a subscription plan?

Hello @Anonymous,

As long as you continue to renew your maintenance plan, you will not have to move to subscription(based on the current license types available).
