Hello Autodesk Team.
today i updated from my Maya 2015 Student Version to Commerical. After i imported a Student file, i got the normal message "This file was created in Student Version". But after i export the file as .mb and open the new file, i got no message anymore.
This is okay for a few models, but this could be create confusion on a large asset libary.
my question, is there any possiblity to mark these files aswell? Dont wanna break any License Rules.
edit: and what happend, if i import an obj, created on a Student Version and add it to my "commerical" model?
Is there an way to detect for us, to detect if something in a scene is based on Student Version? So we should always watch
for "commercial use", if downloading a 3d model?

You cannot use any educational work for commercial work. It violates the license agreement. So just don't do it.
In the past, any portion of educational work used to watermark entire commercial works. The use of the watermark has been reduced as of late, but my thought is that that information is still in the file. At some point, I would not be surprised if the watermark returns to full display and a lot of people get their hands caught in the cookie jar.
Not worth an audit. I would archive all of your educational work and not risk it.
"You cannot use any educational work for commercial work. It violates the license agreement. So just don't do it. "
I know, that's exactly the reason why i ask this question. I think the main Problem with that is, that you can't detect if someone else did
the same progress with a Scene or a Model. (Resave it, so the Student Message doesn't pop up anymore) So if i get a 3D Model from someone else or i buy it from a website, there is NO GARANTEE
for me, that this model is not created in student version right?
So what happens in this case?
Think about, you download a Model for Commerical Use, work on it a bit (animations, texture) and then use it in your game or a movie and it was created from the uploader in a Student Version.
There is no chance for me to detect that its a student verison, correct?
At this point, it really has to be self-policed. However, the software itself will probably know if it was created with a student version even if there are no visible signs yourself. If Autodesk ever decides to turn this back on, which I suspect they will, then my guess is we will see a huge influx of license violations. Could be their plan all along...
I wouldn't risk it. It's better to just stay license compliant. Autodesk is one of the few companies that absolutely will audit you.
well yeah of course, i always try to stay legal. Thats the reason i asked.
self-policed in the internet, is not that easy sometimes. You need to trust into the platform and the author, that everthing is legal.
would appreciate to get a visibile signs.
thanks for your help.
Hey again,
well now i have new question about the license stuff. i worked last few weeks on car race car. yesterday i imported an FBX Cube, which i made months ago in the student version of maya. It was for scaling for unreal 4. After i scaled i delted the cube again.
My question now, is my licensed file now infected? There is no way to detect it for me.
After that situation, i put all the old student files into an new folder.
But yeah is it a problem? Like i said, just a 6 Faces Cube.
any ideas?
