Generate Network License File Error

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hello,

I recently joined an organisation that uses Autodesk products and has one "multi-user" network license of Product Design & Manufacturing Collection. I discovered that the person before me had installed the network license on his own workstation. Although not ideal, the reason for this was because the company did not have a working network at the time. Fortunately we do have a network now and I would like to install the network license manager onto a dedicated server we had made.

I have access to the admin Autodesk account, I can see the Product Design & Manufacturing Collection and when I click on "generate license file" and enter the server name and MAC address I get an error. I'll attached a screenshot of what I'm seeing. When I hover over the red exclamation mark it reads: "You have reached the activation limit for this product. Please contact customer service for assistance."

Can anyone offer an idea of why I'm getting this error and what I can do to fix it? I thought it was maybe because the Network License Manager was still running on the original workstation so I stopped it running using LMTOOLS, then tried to generate a new file but I still get this error.

Hopefully I've explained this well enough. Any help appreciated.

Welcome to the Autodesk User's Community..

It means that your company has generated too many license files in a certain amount of time.  When you reach the max activation limit you have to contact the Autodesk licensing and activation team to have it reset.

Do you have a reseller? Don't waste time on this yourself, have your reseller do all this leg work and simply send you the completed .LIC file. If they refuse, start shopping for a new reseller.

Thanks for the response. Out of interest how can people generate too many license files? I'm only asking as i'm not sure there are many people here that would actually know how to do that. Is it something that can be done by accident or without really knowing what you're doing?

Is @Anonymous and @Anonymous the same individual?

A person could provide the wrong MAC address and would have to create another license file..  So that's 2 licnese files in a short amount of time.  I have had cases where the end user relocated their license manager to 3 different servers in about week and a 1/2.

This type of stuff starts raising red flags at Autodesk end.   So anything is possible.  We as users would not know how many times a end user has generated their license file.

I'm going through this myself. But I know why. We just got some new workstations and are shuffling some computers around. The plan called for one older workstation to replace our license server. I generated a new license to run on that. We had to make some adjustments and that computer is going elsewhere. So trying to get a license file so soon has triggered that response. I'm going through our reseller.

Without knowing the history of your license file generation. It's difficult to say why you'd get the message. One thin is that in order to generate the file online. A person would have to be added to your account and have a level of access.

"One thing is that in order to generate the file online. A person would have to be added to your account and have a level of access."   Although through the Autodesk Account, the contract manager or software coordinator role can only do this but anybody (with an Autodesk Account) can go to register once https://registeronce.autodesk.com/prodreg and do it as well.  Yes its not as easy through that site but the assigned Autodesk Account roles are not needed either..  Smiley LOL

@Mark.Lancaster Thanks for that. Waiting for my reseller to get the Lic file. With the new Subscription model it seems few people are aware that you can still run a network license through the NLM/LM tools.
