Flexlm redundant server problems

I'm haviong trouble getting redundant servers setup, one issue may be the
fact that the server status shows 2 masters.

Flexible License Manager status on Mon 10/27/2003 14:35

[Detecting lmgrd processes...]
License server status: 27005@server1,27005@server4,27005@server5
License file(s) on server1: C:\Program Files\Autodesk Network License
Manager\License\ADT.lic:

server1: license server UP (MASTER) v8.3
server4: license server UP v8.3
server5: license server UP (MASTER) v8.3

Vendor daemon status (on server5):

My understanding is the first server listed on the lic file is the master
and if it is not available then the second server is the master, my setup
shows 1 and 3 as the masters??

Also when I check the debug log it looks like the different servers can't
talk to each other even though they are all using the same port and are set
up the same

14:34:28 (lmgrd) Connection to server1 TIMED OUT
14:34:28 (lmgrd) Connection to server4 TIMED OUT
14:36:28 (lmgrd) license daemon: lost all connections
14:36:28 (lmgrd) This is an internal error. lmgrd will now
14:36:28 (lmgrd) attempt to re-establish contact with other daemons.
14:36:58 (lmgrd) Connection to server1 TIMED OUT
14:36:58 (lmgrd) Connection to server4 TIMED OUT
14:36:59 (lmgrd) license daemon: lost all connections
14:36:59 (lmgrd) This is an internal error. lmgrd will now
14:36:59 (lmgrd) attempt to re-establish contact with other daemons.
14:37:29 (lmgrd) Connection to server1 TIMED OUT
14:37:29 (lmgrd) Connection to server4 TIMED OUT

By the way it doesn't want to work and I'm guessing that this might be the
issue.

thanks

Ken,

You are correct in that you have a communication problem between your
servers. Security software will often cause this behavior. Also remember
that all three servers must reside in the same network segment and should be
as physically close to each other as possible. If you continue to have the
problem, consider distributed servers as that configuration is more
forgiving from a network aspect.

Thanks for the response, it turns oout it was a port problem, when I changed
the port number from 27005 to 29005 it started working.

Software publishers must register the ports they use with some central
authority, and Macrovision has done that with FLEXlm. For the long term,
you should find out what was using FLEXlm's port, and correct it. You may
have only deferred the problem for a short time (until you install something
else that has registered port 29005). (This is assuming you didn't
originally change FLEXlm's port; I don't remember what its registered port
is).
