Failing to install

I had 3ds max 2018 previously installed but it glitched and wouldn't run. I got rid of it and have been trying to install it again but it constantly fails now. I have already tried using the browser install files. Does anyone know what I can do?

Install log is attached.

Thank you!

Welcome to the Autodesk User's Community..

As far as I know the 1632 error that's in your installation log file indicates the temp folder is full..  I would recommend that you clean out C:\Temp, C:\Windows\Temp and your personal temp (%temp%).

Good luck and report back on your progress.

Hello. Cleaning out the temp files is a great place to start. If you are getting any errors on screen, that’s a good place to start research too. Before installing, I would also uninstall the Microsoft C++ redistributables from your machine. They are dependencies that our programs try to install. If they are already present, they may conflict with the installation.

Hope it helps!

Hello @houghtob123

Welcome.

You should also consider uninstalling any remaining files from your old installation, then try to download & install using another method.

  1. Conduct a Clean Uninstall of the application & use the MSfixitTool to complete it
  2. Reboot the computer & log in as Administrator
  3. Temporarily disable security settings like Antivirus, Firewall & UAC on your Windows operating system
  4. Use the Browser Download Method in your Autodesk Account or via the AVA | Autodesk Virtual Agent (download all the parts)

Let us know how it turns out.

Unfortunately my temp directories have been cleaned (they weren't very full in the first place) and the issue persists. I am currently trying some of the other suggestions to see if they help.

Thanks for the reply and help.

Hello dembkod,

Unfortunately the redistributables were not the issue. Installation fails after uninstalling the programs and removing any leftovers with revo. I am now trying other suggestions posed to see if they help.

Thanks for the help!

Hello natashal84,

I have tried your suggestion and it seems to have allowed the installer to at least attempt to install something before it fails. It now fails at trying to install the c++ 2010 sp1 redistributable(x86), at least according to the log file and me watching it. The installer tells me that 3ds Max 201, Arnold renderer, and the desktop app failed. I'm thinking I may need to do a fresh install of windows to get this working...

So I got it working. After trying all suggestions and a few things myself only a clean installation of windows worked.

I don't know what happened but it wasn't the 3DS Max installer.

Thanks for the help guys.
