Hello. I had planned to install Infrastructure Design Suite 2018 today, but I see there are some problems with .Net 4.7. I'm a little confused by Natasha's post, as the AKN article she linked to, and hope I can get some clarification.
- Are 2018 products - specifically AutoCAD/Civil 3d 2018 affected?
- There is no way to uninstall .net updates in Windows 10, and my only option to get rid of 4.7 appears to be to disable it through the Windows Features dialog box. But according to this Microsoft article, older 4.x versions of .net can't be installed on Windows 10 anyway.
Please help!

Hello @kevincurrey,
Sorry about that. This issue is newly discovered the post has been updated. Windows 10 requires the uninstall of the update itself. Windows 7 on the other hand has .NET Framework 4.7 installed independently from the update.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for the reply. So are you saying that I need to roll back Windows and uninstall the Creators update? I'm not sure that's an undertaking I want to deal with.
I have been experiencing frequent crashes in 2017 and had a support case open for that (12999318). However I was told that the issue was a licensing problem that has been resolved in 2018, which is why I planned to upgrade today.
Hello @kevincurrey,
If you have the Windows 10 .NET Framework (KB3186568) installed you can try to install the product as ususal & if at launch there is a problem & it seems to be crashing you can conduct the steps in the post.
Keep us posted.

Hello @kevincurrey,
Same goes for the Windows 10 Creators Update if it is installed, you can install the software as usual. If you have a problem then we can help assist.
I would like to note that the Creators update includes Defenders (antivirus) unless you decide to op-out before installing, Defenders has caused issues during the launch of Autodesk products, please review my post for the options available to you.
Thank you for posting.

I don't have it installed separately because I'm on the Creator's Update, build 1703. There is nothing for me to uninstall.
So just to review, my options are:
1. Roll back to build 1607
2. Live with the current frequency of crashes and hope it doesn't get worse
3. ?
Is there a third option? Do these crashes seem to be happening with more or less frequency with 2018 compared to 2017?
I know this is a newly-discovered bug, but does anyone have a sense on how quickly a fix might be available? A week? A month? Multiple months?
Are these crashes typically producing a CER window, or does it crash out before the report window can be generated?
Sorry for the million questions, I'm just trying to get a sense of whether this is really impacting my office and what the most effective strategy will be for me. Thanks for your help so far.
Also I did see your defender post. We have been running defender as our AV since day 1.
Could you clarify something from that post, I'm not sure what you meant by "you can add an exclusion to all software folders."
Usually AV issues occur during installation, not after the program is installed. Do I just need to add an exclusion to the network share with my installation image?
Or are these issues affecting AutoCAD every time it runs? And to be specific, is the issue affecting AutoCAD products, all Autodesk products? If I need to exclude AutoCAD folders after it's been installed, AutoCAD installs HUNDREDS of folders in Program Files, the user profile folder, and in my case a support folder on the network. Do I only to exclude the folder hosting the acad.exe file?

I have a test computer that I will be installing 2018 on today. I'll report any issues I have with that computer.
Review this article about anti-virus exclusions.

Hello @kevincurrey,
I believe there is a misunderstanding, reading your title you have addressed both the Creators & the .NET Framework 4.7 update. The posts below were created from support discoveries. In some cases, these Windows updates have caused a performance issue with Autodesk product. If you have any of these updates installed the recommendations & steps are listed in the posts below. The crashes that may occur may not be related to these issues.
Windows 10 Creators Update & Defender
Windows 7, 8.1, 10 Updates | Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7

Yes, I think I was misunderstanding.
I have Windows 10 build 1703, which is the Creator's Update. Build 1703 includes .Net 4.7 built in. I do NOT have any updates to .Net 4.7 on top of Windows 10 at the moment. .Net 4.7 is also available as a download on older versions of Windows to replace 4.6x. But on build 1703 it is not a standalone installation, it is baked in to the OS.
Does the AKN article refer to an update TO .Net 4.7, or to .Net 4.7 itself? The AKN article and your post seem to imply that it is .Net 4.7 causing problems.
The recent Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7 update (KB3186497) also prevents AutoCAD from running on a Windows 7 Pro 64b laptop. It actually kills a bunch of software including all the local and online Dell diagnostics I tried. Both AutoCAD MEP 2013 and AutoCAD MEP 2018 were affected (and everything in between?). Solution was simply to uninstall it via control panel and reinstall version 4.6.1
Update
I have installed Civil 3D 2018 on 3 computers (all of which are running the Windows 10 Creator's Update, which has .Net 4.7 built in to the OS) and so far so good, with only a couple of minor hangups. 1 user has been running for half the day and no crashes yet. 2 of the computers are laptops that only get used in the field, so other than the initial startup they haven't had any significant use. Installation did take a couple of tries to get right, I've outlined the steps below.
Installation Sequence
As mentioned in this thread the Creator's Update has made some changes to Windows Defender, and that seems to not play nice with AutoCAD. Windows also doesn't remember mapped network drives when installing a program with elevated (administrator) privileges. These are the steps I took to get everything to play nicely:
A couple issues worth noting:
I only have 4 hours of real use logged so far. I'll update if some of the report issues come up.
I found this article after my AutoCAD 2017 stopped working with Windows 10 Version 1703. Installed AutoCAD 2018 which appears to be working so far. I'm surprised more people aren't having this issue.

Sorry I had to laugh at that statement. The numerous recent updates by Microsoft has caused many headaches in the Autodesk community and many end users are impacted by it.. Right @mdavis22569?
