Autodesk Nastran Editor is closing due to an invalid license

I've been using Inventor Nastran 2023.1 for about three weeks and I've been utilising Editor at times too.

On the odd occasion I've seen messages about licenses but when I've clicked OK (the only thing I've been able to do), it's always gone away and let me carry on. Today, I can't use Editor at all. I've uninstalled. Looked for updates. Checked my licensing. Tried logging into a different PC.

I've still got the same problem.

To be clear, I can load Inventor and I'm logged into my account. I can use Nastran in Inventor. I just can't get the Editor to open. Can anyone offer some advice please?

(The reason I need to use Editor is because I need to use the probe. If I try the probe in Inventor, the software locks up.)

Thanks

Steve

Hi Steve,

Can you still run the analysis (any analysis, such as a simple block) from within Inventor? (That is, using the Inventor Nastran environment within Inventor to run the analysis.) I suspect that capability may have failed now, too, so getting into the Nastran Editor my not work.

If you can run the analysis but the Editor does not work, then try the following:

  1. Exit Inventor if it is running.
  2. Make sure that all instances of "Editor.exe" on the Windows Task Manager > Details tab have ended. (If not, use "End Task" to close them.)
  3. Go to the Windows “Control Panel -> Uninstall programs”.
  4. Look for Autodesk Identity Manager and uninstall it.
  5. Start the Autodesk Desktop App (ADA) and log out. (The ADA is a tool installed with Autodesk Software and used to update software.)
  6. Now try to start the Nastran Editor. If any dialogs appear regarding licensing, please make a screen capture of them (Windows Snip & Sketch tool).

John.

Hi Steve,

I think you can ignore my suggestions in the previous post. My computer just contracted COVID-23.1. I can no longer run an analysis in Inventor Nastran 2023.1, and I get this dialog when I try to start the Nastran Editor:

(I am just joking. There is no COVID-23.1, but there is something updating computers that causes Inventor Nastran 2023.1 to stop running analyses.)

The solution at the moment is to uninstall Inventor Nastran 2023.1 and install Inventor Nastran 2023.0.

Edit: Try this. Turn off the wi-fi (or disconnect the network cable if plugged in), and then start the Nastran Editor. It opens when I try it. (Or if running an analysis in Inventor, start Inventor, go into the Nastran environment, and turn off the wi-fi just before running the analysis.)

I am having the same problem, Not sure what the problem is. Its showing error S1121: Invalid license for analysis or feature type. Hope Autodesk can resolve this issue within a week. If it exceeds that time frame, I am not sure if Nastran would serve as reliable FEA analysis tool for my company.

@John_Holtz - well your Covid reference made me chuckle this morning! And breathe a partial sigh of relief that it's not just me...

Yesterday I could open the Nastran environment in Inventor. I wasn't running any simulations, only changing plots of the results to report on them, but it seemed to be working fine.

I have tried your suggestion to unplug from the network, but I still get the error message about the license. I'll try to uninstall the update and revert back to 23.0. I'll report back later

Hi @kbsUU4KS

The solution is the same for you: uninstall Inventor Nastran 2023.1 and re-install Inventor Nastran 2023.0.

We will have a fix later this week -- once someone can confirm that the files work.

The instructions to fix this issue will be published overnight (if not sooner) in this article: "Fatal error S1121 Invalid license for analysis or feature type" when running study in Inventor Nast...

Edit Sep 27. Note that the mentioned article is in the process of being revised. It may be revised again over the next several days. While being revised, the article may not be available. Try again later.
