I downloaded the three files directly: http://i.imgur.com/t40bvXh.png , extracted them to my chosen directory, ran the setup and clicked install. I ended up with this: http://i.imgur.com/lLwnnDk.png Autodesk clearly wont install. Log file attached. Any suggestions or help to making autodesk install?

Why do have the installation files in your A:\Program Files\Autodesk directory???

Move that entire folder Inventor_2018_English_Win_64bit_dlm to A:\Autodesk\ then run the installation again.

Alright, Ill try that. I like to keep all of my program files in that folder because it makes my secondary drive more organized.

First thing..  Although you were probably unaware of this, but when you post or share stuff here, please make sure it doesn't include your personal information such as your serial #. This is a world wide user forum and that type of info should not be included in your posting. Granted the installation log file helped us to determine your root cause (but it did contain your serial #)... So in the future remove or blur it out before posting. I will have the moderator remove it in order to protect your information.

Next it sounds like you have a permission issue.  Make sure you have full admin rights to your pc and delete as many files & folders located in your personal (%temp%) folder.  Good luck and report back on your progress.

I am the only admin account on the computer, I also have tried deleting everything in the temp folder. I manually ran the exec as admin this time after reclearing temp. It gets as far as this http://i.imgur.com/lqaEsbr.png and then fails the same way as before, I can't find any serial number or anything in the log file so please let me know how to remove it from the log file. Also, the install seems to fail on Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 and I found this http://i.imgur.com/ztHhQpO.png. I have the log file for Visual C++ if needed. @Mark.Lancaster

It seems like your Temp folder is either redirected or your system is short on memory...

Not sure what temp directory you cleared out, but it should be C:\users\<username>\appdata\local\temp

If you already cleared out that directory, please confirm the temp location by doing the following:

  1. From the Control Panel, click System
  2. On the left of the System page, click Advanced system settings
  3. On the bottom of the System Properties dialog, click Environment Variables...
  4. In the top section of the window, there are 2 listings TEMP & TMP make sure they're pointing to:
    • %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp
