I have a case opened with Autodesk but getting nowhere. I install Autodesk Civil 3d 2020 and the 2017 version stops working. 2017 opens and then closes right away and gives error message. Error message contains the following files: C3Dminidump.dmp, dmpuserinfo.xml, dumpdata.zip.

Welcome to the Autodesk Community.

That's a standard crash report must go to Autodesk..  Is that what you did and hearing nothing back or did you actually create a case?

Case was opened and finally got hold of someone from Autodesk after several
tries. The person I talked to said to install Design Suite 2020 again and
the to email him or call him when it was installed. I installed 2020 again,
and again 2017 stopped working. 2017 opens the program and the shuts down
right away. After several emails and 2 calls to his phone number, he finally
called back and looked at our license and said there is nothing he can do
and he would have the IT Dept. call us. (He assured me they would call that
day). It is now 4 days later and have never received a call from the IT
Dept.

Per the crash report...   I'm kind of seeing that you may need to install Civil 2017 SP1 and then the 1.1 update.  Access manage.autodesk.com and product updates.   Unless you have already applied these updates..

It can, but some have experience some issues after this has been done (in both versions)

Mark Lancaster got back to me and said to install the 2017 updates that were missing. This worked!

Anyone still have the updates to IDS 2020?  I had to install onto a new machine and I'm having difficulty getting the updates for 2020 from autodesk
