Autocad Crash message

I keep crashing with this message: FATAL ERROR: Unhandled Access Violation Reading 0x0045 Exception at a3347ec4h

I just uninstalled autocad student version yesterday on my home computer and installed autocad 2018 with a licence that my job provided me so I can work from home a few hours per day. I am running windows 10 and I have a Nvidia GTX graphics card. I already tried updating my graphics drivers but that didn't work. (I bought it 7 years ago). Is this a graphics card issue or an issue with my new software licence? I'm so confused. Please help.

I don't think I need to convert from a student licence because I did the following steps:

1) Uninstalled 2016 Autocad student version off of my home PC which is associated with my personal student autocad account credentials

2) Logged into autodesk with the account that our IT person set up for me which contains the licence for my company (erfan.ahmend)

3) Went to the licence manager and downloaded and installed autocad 2018 from there

**reading through the thread you directed me to - it looks like the problem might be that I removed autocad 2016 but did not uninstall all of the peripheral applications. I will try removing everything and reinstalling again as outlined. I will update this thread with my progress.

HI @Anonymous,

I am checking to see how the status of this issue is progressing.  Are you still seeing crashing? If so, do you have the opportunity to send in a crash report? I don't see any reports with your email address.

To see if this is a Graphics card issue, please tell me your OS and your graphics card make and model. I can check to see if there is a newer driver for your system.  You can also start AutoCAD with the No Hardware switch (turns off hardware acceleration) to see if that helps.

Can you prepare a NFO file for me to examine?

I'm still working on the solution. Been very busy at work.  Trying a fresh install tonight.

Thank you.

Would it even give me the option to download the wrong version from the Autodesk.account management tab? Not understanding how I could end up with anything but the most current version if I'm using that method to download.

Hi John,

I checked if there is a newer driver, but feel free to double check for me. How do I send you the NFO? I have it saved on my desktop but it won't let me attach it to the post.

Did you install the Autodesk Desktop App ?

It sometimes can help resolving errors by finding and installing updates.

Newest .NET Framework is also quite important

HI @Anonymous,

Your account page should show the current version for download as well as the prior two versions. Make sure that when you obtain the version you want, that you also select 64-bit if your OS is running 64-bit Windows.

If you are going through a reinstall process, make sure that you first perform a clean uninstall. I suggest that you also run Windows Updates to make sure you are totally current. IF you would like to submit your NFO, email it to me at [email protected]. I will try to look at it as quickly as possible and will also check to see if you have the most current graphics driver.

You are running Windows 10 so it can be tricky to determine which version of .NET Framework is on your system but this Microsoft Article might help.  It would be good to verify that you have .NET Framework 4.7.1 installed as this remedied many issues caused buy the prior two releases.

Hi John,

I just did a clean uninstall according to the instructions. I followed them to a T.

I have sent you my NFO via email.

Thank you

Hi @Anonymous,

Yes, I have your NFO.  It appear that you have the correct graphics driver installed on your Windows 10 Home.  I am looking through the Windows Event log and see that even before AutoCAD faults, that even the Desktop Windows Manger throws errors.

You also indicated that there are no network connections at the time you created the NFO which is very unusual.

When you reinstalled, did you keep the install logs that are stored in the temp folder? I would like for  you to attach that to a post so I can see if anything failed.

The Graphics card is also not on the certified / recommended list so that might be another issue.

While I wait for the log file, can you try turning off the Anti-Virus temporarily to see if that makes a difference? I would also like you to use the No Hardware switch when starting AutoCAD to see if that improves this issue.

Hi John,

I'm actually installing windows updates now. I thought I had it on automatic update but it looks like there are updates available.  I will try to re-install again after that. If I get an error installing I will see if I can get you a log file. Would that be the %TEMP% folder that they mentioned in the uninstall tutorial?

I did get a screenshot of the error when I attempted to install before installing windows updates. I have attached it.

If I do indeed need a new graphics card to stop all of the crashing, I'd like to know that is absolutely the problem because it would have to come out of my own pocket.

Thanks!

Hi @Anonymous,

Yes that should be in the same location.  There is also a tool from the I&L forum that you should run perhaps. It is the prerequisite checker.  I am concerned that the video card might be the root cause of this issue. Do you have a different one that you could install to see if it helps?
