AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D Load time

Anonymous
Not applicable

Operating System: Windows 10 Pro | Build 14393 (Fresh Install)

Hardware: HP Zbook 15 G3 (M200M graphics) ; System plugged into power at all times.

Hard Drive: Samsung EVO solid state drive (500GB)

Drivers: Latest drivers installed along Windows updates

License Model: Flex License Server

Environmental Variables: Added the server name and flex time out increase to 6 ms.

Issue: AutoCAD Civil 3D  2017 takes between 10-15 minutes to load. Once loaded, it runs just fine. Same issue with AutoCAD 2017. The issue is more noticeable at the main office vs a remote job. We have tried many things including borrowing a license. Any ideas please?

Can you provide the debug log file as indicated in the config service tab of your license manager (LMTOOLS).

Hello @Anonymous,

Thank you for posting & please provide the log.

Take a look at the following article you can try to remove any blockage from a firewall, point server to a specific port, options file in place, or remove/adjust the time to pull a license for the FLEXnet License service. Also, review this article to verify connectivity to the server Using Internet Explorer to check if the ports used for licensing are open

Let us know if you can find the log & include it to your reply. Thanks.

First, I doubt if it's your license server... But to be sure, check to see if you have a Environment Variable with the name flexlm_timeout. For help locating the environment variables, use this link

I think the issue could be something else, like with your profile and/or graphics card. To test this theory, do the following:

  1. Go to Start > All programs > Autodesk > AutoCAD Civil 3D > Reset settings to Default
  2. When prompted, Choose Back up and reset custom settings:
    • reset.jpg
  3. When the application is opened, exit and restart the application and take note of the load time.

If the load time increases, then there could be other reasons for the slow load time like paths within your profile changing or server side changes to drive mappings...

If not, then right-click the Civil 3D shortcut and choose Properties. In the Target field, add the /nohardware switch like so:

prop.jpg

If this that speed up the load time, then it's graphics related. In this case, update your graphics card driver by downloading it from the vendor's website... Never rely on the windows update drivers...

Good luck @Anonymous!
