3D Max on a VDI

Is running 3d Max (currently we have 2008, but the question stands for any version) possible / supported in a virtual desktop infrastructure. Assuming that the VDI server has Hardware graphics that can be passed through to the workstations, sufficient RAM, processor etc? The project is little more than an idea at this point so choice of hardware, hypervisor etc have still to be made. This is very much an 'in theory' question which could stop the project before it starts.

Virtualization thru Citrix is supported but your older version is not.
