I am in dire need of help!
Every year I create an academic image that contains all our Autocad products. Here's what I have done so far this year.
1. I registered several Autocad 2020 products for education - multi user setup with a single license server.
2. I created a deployment for all the products.
3. I then created a virtual machine using VMWare.
4. I installed Windows 10 - 20H2 along with all the Autocad products (using the deployment I created previously)
5. I then perform a sysprep and capture the image with dism.
6. I then deploy the image via SCCM to all the computers in a lab.
I did this last year without a problem. This year when I applied the image to the computers I realized that when I run any of the Autodesk products, I get a Warning 1946 error message. I looked into this message and noticed that it seems to be a rare by known issue with MSI installers.
I am guessing what happened was that the deployments I created in step 2 probably had those error message happen in the background but it continue to install. I used the same installer and tested an "install on this computer" type of installation. When I did a manual installation like that I would see the error message Warning 1946. This indicates that there is something wrong with my msi installer. I got this installer by going to manage.autodesk.com
I decided to try and download the software a different way. I used the Ask AVA option. I decided to try Autocad 2020 through AVA. Upon installing it on the machine only (instead of using my deployments) I did not get an error message about Warning 1946. I thought at this point I am out of the woods since it installed the software with no errors. So I captured this test image and applied it to a physical computer. I ran Autocad 2020 and sure enough it gives me the Warning 1946 error message. If I click OK on all four error messages the software loads up fine. However, I don't want the students being exposed to error messages like that since it will swamp the helpdesk with phone calls.
The only thing I haven't tried yet was installing the image and autocad on a physical computer and capturing that as my base image instead of using VMWare.
If anyone needs more information or clarity let me know. I will be subscribing and keeping an eye out on this thread.
