Upgrading Multi-user license software.

Here's my issue.  I have a user that needs to upgrade his Revit (which is part of an AEC Multi-User license).

Right now he's logged in as himself on his computer.  When he opens a network Revit file, it creates a local file using his username.  This was fine till he needed some add-ins and upgrades installed.  The Autodesk desktop app wouldn't show any of the downloads for that file.  So I went over and signed in to Autodesk as me so I could have access to the upgrade downloads.  But this kept me logged in to Revit.  So when he started working in Revit, it wouldn't let him save as he was now logged in as someone different than the original local file username.

So my question is, how do I set this up correctly.  I read up on how to add users to my autodesk account.  But I can only assign stand-alone licenses.  What do I do for the few users who are sharing multi-license software packages?   Do I just need to periodically sign in and upgrade them... remembering to sign out after?

Whoever is signed in doesn't prevent someone from saving files in Revit.  In addition I wouldn't rely on the desktop app (its just bloatware)..  Get your updates directly from your Autodesk Account.

I wasn't planning on using the desktop app... but when I looked for the Revit Extension for Fabrication... Autodesk said to use the app.   So I logged into the app and installed them.  This logged me into Revit.  After he opened the local file he had been working on, when he went to save, it gave him the following error.

"This Local File has been saved by user 'CAD', current user is "Shawn_SunsetAir'.  Please change your user name or stop working on this file.".

I couldn't save the file.  And you can't change your username when you are in a file.  I also couldn't do a save-as.  So he lost the work he had done.  Luckily it wasn't much.

Hello @Anonymous,

Sorry to hear that your colleague lost his work. The reason this happened was b/c you are using Revit workshare file storage. In this case, it is tied to the Autodesk Account & stores files on the local drive.

Please follow the steps outlined in this article, Error: "This Local File has been saved by user....Please change your user name or stop working on th...

Now for the update issue, I recommend that users update through their own Autodesk Accounts make sure the Contract Manager has assigned them access to downloads & updates.

Thank you.
