The serial number you entered is not valid. Try again. (1)

I am stuck. I am trying to activate a home use license of AutoCAD on my Mac. Our company has AutoCAD maintenance subscription for full AutoCAD for PC. I have been given a serial number and product key by Autodesk and they agree that it should activate/register AutoCAD for Mac. However, I cannot get the serial number to work. I am seriously frustrated with this whole process and replying to closed support cases. I wish I could speak with someone on the phone and resolve this once and for all!

I get the error "The serial number you entered is not valid. Try again. (1)" everytime. I have tried installing/reinstalling AutoCAD for Mac 2015 and 2016. I have made sure I had the latest versions with any updates as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello jback93 and welcome to the Autodesk community!

It looks like you're getting an "Invalid Serial Number” message or having trouble with your product key while trying to register and activate your Autodesk software. The following article(s) should help you resolve the problem:

Click Top reasons why you may get a Serial Number Error during Activation

And check Error: "Invalid serial number" (standalone activation)

For product key information: Finding Serial Numbers & Product Keys

If you’re having an issue with your product key, please make sure that you are using the correct one for your product (especially if your product comes from a suite). Finally, you should type then numbers and letters in. We do not recommend copy/paste.

If you are still having issues activating your product, you may visit our Activation Contact Us page and submit your inquiry there.

Ok, I found the solution, with a little luck. For a Home Use License, if you are trying to use a different version of AutoCAD (PC or Mac) than what your original product was purchased for; then make sure you use the Product Key for your original product. Example:

My company has AutoCAD 2015 (PC, Product Key: 001G1) and I have requested a Home Use License. I currently have a Mac and download AutoCAD 2015 for Mac (Product Key: 777G1) for home use. When you begin your initial installation and need to enter your Home Use Serial Number and Product Key, make sure you use the Product Key for your primary license, 001G1. And vice versa if you originally purchased AutoCAD for Mac. I made the mistake of using the Product Key for the PRODUCT I was installing and had a hard time. Good Luck!
