student license and installations on multiple devices

Hi,

after installing a student version of 2019 cad I realised my macbook air 6.2 is not up to the task... it's almost impossible to use the software.. looks like I make a valuation mistake and I now need to bit the bullet and purchase a new, more performing laptop... 😞

Considering I'm allowed to use my license on 2 computers, will I be left with "one last chance only"for my 3 yrs license?  is there any way to reverse the process? what if I remove the program from the macbook  and sell it... purchase a window laptop and a desktop? or need to upgrade/swap the new laptop in the future?

regards,

F.

Welcome to the Autodesk User's Community..

There's really no way to reverse a student activation and I wouldn't worry about it.  Just install and activate on the new machine and be done with it.   If down the road you need to do it again and you reach the max activation limit you can just contact Autodesk and they will assist you in getting it activated.

Hello @Frank_dwg

The terms of use for educational licenses  now follow the general usage terms for subscriptions, outlined in the The License and Services Agreement (LSA)

So you can install on more then one educational device/computer & follow the single-user sign in, on one device at a time rule of thumb.

What product are you looking to install? If you are looking for a new laptop, I can help point you in the right direction.

thanks for your response,  nice to know that  Autodesk can consider that option if needed, as I will most definitely need another laptop  now and a desktop station later on...

hi thanks for your offer, I'm studying civil eng. design, autocad, revit, and perhaps something else down the track... I'm on a budget... definitely no macs, portability a plus but I can set up a large monitor at home... I'm looking for an  entry level customisable gaming laptops...  not sure if I can mention brands here on the forum... something around US $800 (although I'm not base in the USA) ...or cheaper... just wondering if a slim inspiron 15 7000  is to consider or the size brings limitations......  Thanks!

How big are the models and your designs going to be?

So far I have found the HP Pavilion 15-cx0511na 15.6” Intel® Core™ i5+ GTX 1050 Gaming Laptop - 1 TB HDD which seems to have most if not all features you want, I am UK by the way so price may fluctuate.

Main aims are:

Quad core processor minimum

High clock speed

Atleast 8gb RAM

Atleast a 4gb graphics card.

if you're going to be getting one ...get it based on the Revit spec's.

If you can't get the require spec'd PC for Revit. I would hold off till you can. It's not worth just getting by. It's better to to at least meet the max required spec's if you want to have it work for a few years without needing another update.

That being said,  CPU:  Get at least a 3.5 GHz chip. Intel or Xeon.    GPU - Get a GTX1080 or higher card. I would recommend the P2000 or P4000 Quadro card.   Then you want at least 24 GB Ram, I would go 32 for a starting point.
