I was having the exact same problem with my AutoCAD REVIT LT 2016 Suite install.
It would fail due to the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable prerequisite being newer on my machine than the one within the downloaded installed from Autodesk. This is very frustrating as the way it fails - during the installation process so the install stops and even though the log shows that many of the component Autodesk products (in my case REVIT LT 2016) never are actrivated and the install locks at this point.
One is left to cancel out of the install and you are left with a bunch of installation remnants on your hard drive.
That is why many of the fixes that I found on the forums said one of the following:
1) Uninstall all suspect Autodesk products and start over. (does not work in this case as it is a conflict with out-of-date content at Autodesk)
2) Remove the "autodesk" folder at the installation location(s) - which is a manual version of option 1.
3) Attempt to use the virtual agent at Autodesk which I found nearly impossible to use and not helpful at all and would not really work for this problem.
4) Manually download each Autodesk component and manually install them from your hard-drive or USB flash drive. (might work)
or
5) Go into Windows and unistall the conflicting Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable prerequisets and attempt the install again. (this worked)
After doing step 5, the install happened without a hitch and quickly!
What this means it that Autodesk should download the newest Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable and have them as part of the installation routines as this is essentially what they are asking any User with an up-to-date computer to do in reverse.
I bought a new, harware compatable computer per Autodesk standards a week ago, so this was a clean install on a new (few days old) machine, purchased the software a day or so later and then attempted the install. This was a nearly perfect situation, new machine, new software, this was the first software to be installed and yet it fails. And, yes, my virus protection was turned off and all my updates were in place, etc.
Oh, and it was a failure "Result = 1619" and not 1603 in my case.
When I orderd my software through a local agent I made sure to ask for a physical CD to be sent along, even though it was another $40 I wanted to know that just in case my previous dificulties with installing Autodesk software would occur I would have a back-up. So there is another option...
6) Unistall the online downloaded Autodesk files fully and install the product(s) from the physical CD's you had the forethought to order - just be aware that the serial number and product key may differ than those on record from your on-line order. (I was told that by the local seller)
I just want to say that I really like Autodesk products and have used them for decades, I just find the installation and housekeeping to be cumbersome.
