Revit LT 2016 - Failure AFTER 30 day Trial

Anonymous

Hi

I had Revit 2016 LT happily installed and sucessfully running upon my new Windows 10 stand alone/laptop....but as a 30 day trial.

After the trial ended, my boss gave up his LT license and transferred it to me via License Transfer. I have had an e-mail confirming the change from Autodesk and when I log into my account, I can see the correct serial no. and product key  to use.

After putting this information in, the program has failed to run beyond the 1st opening window with an error…

Autodesk prob.png

“Establish an internet connection to continue/The Autodesk license server cannot be found. This problem can be caused by a variety of issues, including: Internet connectivity has been lost; The Autodesk license server is temporarily unavailable.”

Since then; I have:

AND..... none of it works!

Anyone got a clever ideas what to try next before I ask for the subscription to be refunded.... or more likely, shove a pencil in each nostril, put some underpants on my head and start muttering 'wibble' to myself?

Hello davidim4 and welcome to the Autodesk community!

It looks like you're seeing the "Desktop Subscription Licensing" error. This error sometimes occurs due to an Autodesk licensing hotfix, lack of proper connection like network flow is blocked by Proxy Server or an Autodesk Servers Issue. The following article(s) should help you resolve the problem:

Downloading Previous Versions of Autodesk Software Using the Virtual Agent (Please be sure to disable your firewall and anti-virus before downloading)

Nice try Otto - but they have all been tried and did not help.
Please note ...Revit LT has been working sucessfully on the machine so I assume I should not need to go through the re-install routine?

Hi @Anonymous,

Welcome to the community!

Sorry to hear about the issue. i would first suggest trying to use the Poodle Hotfix to see if that takes care of the issue. Please note that only 2014 and 2015 are referenced there, however the 2015 version sometimes will work for Revit LT 2016. My next suggestion would be to run the program as the administrator. I have also seen programs which are used to speed up your internet connection blocking the Autodesk connection, such as Onspeed.

Are you by chance being blocked by a proxy server, I know Otto referenced this page?

Hi Matthew

Installed the Poodle Hotfix sucessfully and re-started; but did't help.

Ever since the first issue with this - I have been running the program as the administrator; still no joy.

I have no programs to speed up the internet connection - it is a brand new virtually vanilla setup laptop.  Other than F-Secure Anti-Virus and Firewall, have only added standard Microsoft 365 packages, Autodesk 3D packages e.g. Revit, 360 and Navis as trial (all sucessfully), but it was only when we settled in on deciding to proceed with Revit LT that it all goes wrong.

I work from home connecting directly to the internet (there is no IT dept or corporate server) and I assume I am not blocked by a proxy server if the settings are to be beleived (see below).

So I am in the situation of still being unable to access a program that the company is paying for!

What bothers me is that it worked OK until (after the 30 day trial) my boss transfered his license to me and I put in the serial and product key (that my Autodesk Account says I should have access to i.e. Revit LT 2016, 2015 and 2014).  As a check, I downloaded something that wasn't on my Autodesk Account, i.e. Revit LT 2013 and guess what....that works fine, but it isn't checking for a serial number.  Does this clearly point to the communications link and some kind of glitch in that area that the previous help pages still haven't addressed?

Hi @Anonymous,

Yes, definitely understand the odd situation of how it work before and not now. I would suggest trying a clean uninstall, disabling your antivirus, and reinstalling from the virtual agent. My thought behind this is that something corrupted the file and we just want to start fresh.

Hi

Re: clean uninstall - Instructions/Link (actions shown in red in respect of any Revit and Revit LT files)

.

  1. First, uninstall the program through the Windows Control Panel.
DONE - I uninstalled using the Autodesk Uninstall Tool
  2. Then run the Microsoft Install/Uninstall Fixit utility and try to uninstall again:
How to troubleshoot problems when you install or uninstall programs on a Windows-based computer

FAILED - the Fixit utility does not work with Windows10....however, I did manage to determine that the Windows Installer engine is working and that the Windows Installer service is not set to Disabled
  3. If you are having licensing issues, you can remove the licensing storage file as well. If you are not dealing with licensing errors, removing this file may be unnecessary. Remove the Trusted Storage file (Licensing) located in these areas

On Vista or Windows 7/8:

  • C:\ProgramData\FLEXnet\adskflex_########_tsf.data  Not sure so remamed doc "adskflex_00691b00_event" ... dated 18 Dec 2015
  • C:\ProgramData\FLEXnet\adskflex_########_tsf.data.backup Not sure so remamed doc "adskflex_00691b00_tsf.data_backup.001" ...dated 5 Jan 2016

  1. Delete any residual Program Files from these locations:
  • C:\Program Files\Autodesk\  DONE
  • C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ DONE
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Autodesk\  None (N/A)
  • C:\Users\All Users\Autodesk\ None (N/A)
  • C:\Users\**YOUR USERID**\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\ DONE
  • C:\Users\**YOUR USERID**\AppData\Local\Autodesk\ DONE...but note that ONLY  a Revit folder existed, there was no Revit LT
The program folders should be clearly named.

  1. Clean out your TEMP files:

    1. Click the Windows Start button.
    2. In the Run box type %TEMP% and press Enter
    3. Highlight and delete all files. Ignore any files in use. DONE - only one file failed (Msdtadmin)

Re: disabling your antivirus, Done

Re: reinstalling from the
virtual agent.  Downloaded Revit LT files and sucessfully installed directly from Autodesk Account

So then tried to run Revit LT - and ....as before - FAILED!

Any more ideas?

David

Hi @Anonymous,

Very sorry to see that you are still having trouble connecting to the internet. Here is another guide of how to establish an internet connection. I have also gone ahead and escalated a case (11383708) for you. A representative will be contacting you via email/phone to get you up and going.

Thanks Matthew - tried everything in the link and still no luck.
A quick thought though - if I download Revit LT to another computer, could I then "Request an activation code using an offline method" that would then allow me to use the 'Register Once - Welcome! Product Registration & Activation'

facilty as follows (back on the problem computer)?https://registeronce.autodesk.com/prodreg/collectFlexNetStandaloneParams!input.action

Cheers

David

Accepted solution

Situation resolved thanks to Autodesk finally taking remote control of laptop and finding it was all due to a subscription error (more at their end than at mine).

However, it is a relatively rare occurrence so probably no useful info. in the thread for others - other than:

  1. Don't get disheartened - they will eventually contact you!
  2. Big shout out/thanks to Autodesk's Kevin Vargas for the input to get it resolved!

🙂
