Repairing a user's computer while they use a different computer

Using named licenses, a user is permitted to log in from only 1 device at a time. If their AutoCAD crashes we sometimes put them on a different computer while I'm repairing the broken one. I, as CAD Manager, must log into the broken computer as that original named user to troubleshoot and repair their AutoCAD, under their AutoCAD profile. This creates a breach of the licensing agreement, and would appear as if the user is logged in simultaneously from 2 computers.  What is the proper way of dealing with this apparent conflict.

If you're very strict, the user should log out on the other machine while you are busy on his machine. On the other hand, Autodesk doesn't provide any tools (as far as I know) for these situations. So I wouldn't bother too much about Autodesks rules.

I've found that ignoring Autodesk's rules can be detrimental to one's finances.

Have you seen this:

What’s new?

  1. We've lifted the device installation limit. Now, users can install our software on multiple devices, using it on one device at a time for added flexibility and convenience. New notifications help users understand when they are using product across too many desktop devices.
  2. Autodesk software can now be used concurrently on a desktop and mobile device. This allows users to adjust or review files on the move without needing to log out of one device.

You've lifted the device installation limit, put not the prohibition of being logged into more than one device at a time, at least not as of last week when I checked the Autodesk website. In the situation I described, the original user and I would be logged in as the original user, on 2 different desktop computers (concurrent log in) which is prohibited. We are not using them concurrently on a desktop and mobile device.

As for Item 2 - I'm not talking about using a desktop and mobile device simultaneously. I'm talking 2 desktop machines: the one I'm fixing and the one temporarily being used by the designer. Your own text precludes that.

As long as you are not using the same license at the same time on both machines, there should be no issue doing what you need to do with repairs and such. That's all you truly have to worry about.

Still need more assurances? Ask the license owner to contact Autodesk Support. Here are ways to open a support case with Autodesk if you/they are on subscription:
