"Another Autodesk Install/update is now occurring...." / Install Error 1618

Hi,

First post, and one which is causing us some headaches.

We have 14 PC/Laptops across our office network, using a range of Revit LT Suite 2016 and BDSP 2016. We are trying to update and install the new 2017 versions, and coming across the error above, however we try to install the software.

We have the setup files saved to a network drive for easy access, however as soon as we run setup, we get the black box with "Another Autodesk Install/update is now occurring...." message. If we try and install through the Autodesk Desktop App, it begins to download, then the install fails with a 'Install error 1618' code.

Having browsed, I have also downloaded the parts from the Autodesk virtual agent, and that install fails for the same reasons also.

This happens with any Autodesk products we try to install, so not limited to Revit LT suite or BDSP.

On my PC I have tried uninstalling all versions of Microsoft Visual C++ instances, and that still produced the "Another autodesk install/update..." message.

I have also gone through the task manager and closed out any installers (wher possible) and autodesk services, and nothing will allow us past the "Another Autodesk install/update..." message. So far, we have this on 3 out of the 14 PC's/laptops we have tried, but its looking like a network wide issue, not specific machines.

We have our external IT company looking at it (they only really look after our server, have little knowledge of Autodesk products), and so far they are hitting a wall.

Just wondered if anyone could advise further on what could be telling the Autodesk installers that another install/update is happening, and/or if there is any way to by-pass it.

Thanks in advance for any advice.help offered.

Regards

MJ

Rebooting makes no difference, unfortunately.

The only way I managed to get the Autodesk installer window up (with deployment or install options) was to boot into safe mode, but the windows installer service (MSIEXEC.exe) wont run in safe mode, so I couldn't go any further.

Can you provide the installation log file.  Its located in the user's personal (%temp%) folder.

The setup log for Design Suite Premium 2018 just contains multiple dated/timed entries over last 2 days as follows:

2017/5/3:15:10:54 marc.johnson BHA-PC12 === Setup started on BHA-PC12 by marc.johnson ===
2017/5/3:15:10:54 marc.johnson BHA-PC12 Path_Length: 158

2017/5/3:15:10:54 marc.johnson BHA-PC12 Launch
2017/5/3:15:10:54 marc.johnson BHA-PC12 CommandLine
2017/5/3:15:10:54 marc.johnson BHA-PC12 Another Autodesk install/update is now occurring on this computer. Please wait for that to complete and then click Retry.2017/5/3:15:10:57 marc.johnson BHA-PC12 Another Autodesk install/update is now occurring on this computer. Please wait for that to complete and then click Retry.2017/5/3:15:10:58 marc.johnson BHA-PC12 === Setup ended ===

That's as far as it gets. You click set up, you click 'Yes' on the user account control box that appears, then you get the "Another Autodesk install/update is now occurring on this computer" message.

My PC already has the 2016 and 2017 versions installed, and this same issue/error occurs if I try and install any Autodesk product or update.

And as stated, this is occurring on 3 so far that we have tried - the others having Revit LT 2016 suites installed, that we need to install the 2017 version on now.

Unless this is a deployment, don't run the installer across a network.  Also clean out your personal (%temp%) folder.  Delete as many files and folders in that location and reboot the machine.

Cheers. We have saved setup files on a server before and then run them (manually) on each PC successfully, never come across this issue before.

However, I've just cleaned out my %temp% folder, rebooted and copied the setup files to my PC C:\ drive, and I still get the 'Another Autodesk Install/Update... " message. Tried installing updates for Revit and Autocad from the Autodesk Dekstop App, and they also fail shortly after beginning to download, with an 'Install error 1618' code.

Install logs report the same as that posted above, as its not getting past the 'another install in progress' bit.

Its very frustrating!

Hello @marc.johnson1,

It seems like the Application Manager/Autodesk Desktop App is running in the background.

Try opening the Windows Task Manager, end the process "AdAppMgrSvc.exe *32", then run the installation.

If that does not resolve it I would try to uninstall the Autodesk Desktop App on one device please review this article: To Uninstall the Autodesk Desktop App

Thank you for posting. Smiley Happy

Natasha,

Thanks for the suggestions.

First I ended the "AdAppMgrSvc.exe *32" process which made no difference, so I proceeded to uninstall the Desktop App altogether.

This worked - the 'another install/update' message didn't appear, and it proceeded to the software install window instead.

I have tried this on another PC also, and uninstalling the desktop app sorted that one too.

So looks like I will have to uninstall it on all PC's in order to get our suites updated, but we only have 14 machines in the practice anyway, so it shouldn't take too long.

Thanks again.

Regards

MJ

My solution was similar but it wasnt the Desktop App tool doing it. I had to uninstall the AutoCAD Application Mgr to get mine to go because the AutoCAD Desktop App wasn't actually installed.

First, Maya 2016 update hung, so I restarted Windows 10.  Then, Revit 2020 updates gave install error 1618 (another install is in progress). I closed Autodesk app and restarted Windows 10 again.  All subsequent updates got the same error. How can I abort first Maya update and clean up its remains?  Please help.  Thanks in advance.  🙂

There is usually some kind of key in the registry that gives a status of
the installer - its probably stuck on a status of 1 which would mean its
installing.
