Not starting, not in control panel

Hi, got the following problem

I downloaded Inventor 2018, something went wrong during the installation.

Now its downloaded, and it wont open.

Tried to update it with autodesk desktop manager, restarted pc, still not working.

I wanted to repair it with the uninstall/repair program, but inventor does not show up in the control panel.

My computer fulfills the requirements.

Any idea?

Hi Joost welcome on this forum.
Can you tell me what won't open?
The installation or Inventor it's self.
What Windows version do you use?

Did it give an error message?
Do you have admin rights on the system?
What you can do is start the installation again and use the repair option.

I don't think you can access the Repair/Uninstall function from the installer.

Have you tried the Autodesk Uninstall Tool?  Start > Autodesk > Uninstall Tool

Go to Apps and programs. Then to program and functions (bottom of the page)
Then fine Autodesk Inventor, chose change or remove.
There you will find the Repair or Reinstall

Like I said in the discription, this is not working, inventor does not show up in this list of programs, which means there's something wrong with the program on my computer

The installation dialog image you provided shows a red circle next to inventor. Hover over that and tell us what it says

It says: autodesk inventor is already installed. If you want to add the English language pack, you can install it form: C:\ etc...

Not very interesting. I guess the whole instalation went bad somewhere.

At this point, perform a clean uninstall per these instructions.  Make sure to use Microsoft Fixit as indicated in that article.  With Fixit you will have to repeat the process for each application that needs to be installed.  In addition just make sure to adjust settings if you have other Autodesk products already installed/working on your machine.

From there download and install per these steps:

Download and install per:

1.  Clean out your personal temp (%temp%) folder.  Make sure you have full admin rights, set Windows UAC to never notify and if possible disable your Anti-Virus/Malware scanning utilities. Also the download should occur over a hard wired connection to the Internet and not over WIFI.

2. Access the Autodesk Virtual Agent and follow the download links to your product.

3. Download all of the parts (some applications only have a single part to download) for your product first. This means save each part to your hard drive.  Do not continue until all of the parts have fully downloaded.
4. Navigate to your download folder location and extract (double click) part _001_00X.sfx.exe (or the single file download).
5. In a few seconds the extraction will start and prompt you to extract to C:\Autodesk.
6. Once the extraction is finished, the installation will automatically start.
7. Follow the installation steps for your product.  At this point you could cancel the installation or create a deployment.

However if the installation does fail using this method, please post your installation log file here so we can review it.

Posting info: Sometimes the installation log file contains the serial # that was assigned to you.  Open your log file using Windows Notepad and perform a search on "/SN".  Depending on the number of installation attempts, your serial # may be located throughout the log file.  If present, remove or "X" out your serial # prior to posting.

This will install the English version so if you need a different language pack please download and install from here.

Good luck on your installation and report back on your progress.

Thanks, did not work though...

I installed the 3 file packages, but the moment the installation screen appears, the program says inventor has already been downloaded on my computer, so i cannot install it.

In the attachments you'll find the .log file of the installation

Hello @Anonymous,

Welcome to the community.

The steps provided by @Mark.Lancaster should have resolved the issue, the reason you can not install the software is due to the fact you have tried this before & you need to clean the system of the previous attempts. Also, trying another download method may provide you with a better download. I have provided my version of these same steps below.

  1. Conduct a Clean Uninstall of the program & use the MSfixitTool to complete the uninstall
  2. Reboot the computer & log in as a Windows Administrator
  3. Empty your TEMP folder. To open the TEMP folder, type %TEMP% in the address bar of Windows Start Menu and hit Enter
  4. Temporarily disable security settings like Antivirus, Firewall & UAC on your Windows operating system
  5. Use the Browser Download Method in your Autodesk Account

Thank you for posting & let us know how it turns out.

Hello Joosts,

Please try going to C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\Uninstall Tool\R1

Then click on the uninstall tool to see if you're to uninstall using that software?

That's correct.
The best is to do a complete install so first uninstall what you have now.
